100 degree heat index in the shade

This time of year being an outdoor pipe smoker sucks. I smoked Irish Flake last night and was sweating like a 300lb man running a marathon. Maybe the tobacco had part in it but it was pretty humid last night.
Any ideas outside of smoking while in a swimming pool?

Brother, I feel your pain, as I spent my college days an hour west of Shreveport. Man do I miss those thunderstorms, though.
Question for you is how long have you lived there? Speaking for myself, I acclimate fairly well and accepted the fact that I'd be taking multiple showers a day regardless of physical activities. Smoking, however, was never done in the heat of day. Not a comfortable situation.

I have been here over twenty years but have lived in the humid south all my life. I tend to smoke more at night when evenings are comfortable. Comfortable meaning less than 80 degrees. Last night was not comfortable.

Hope it lets up down your way soon because I'm headed down on the bike in a week. Don't mind the heat but hate riding in steamy conditions.

Re: 100 degree heat index in the shade

When my A/C was broken (I smoke indoors usually if it's too hot/cold) I would go out to my car and let the seat back, put on some music, and turn on the A/C and just chill in there and smoke. I've got nice comfy bucket seats though so it's pretty comfortable just kickin back and relaxing in there... I can see how some cars would not be so comfy... Plus, you've got to think of the ozone layer!

Shade and moving air. Try sitting with your feet in an ice chest full of, well, ice!

I feel for you because of the humidity although sucking a puff with ambient 105F air is a learning experience itself ......

Re: 100 degree heat index in the shade

Here is what I do,,,,I make home made ice cream all summer and always have it on hand. You eat a bowlful of it about 10 minutes before having a cigar,,,this gets your body core temp down and then go outside on your patio/deck and put a fan to the side of you to keep the air moving,,,favorite cold beverage ( ice cold beer is my favorite in the summer ) and enjoy your cigar right after the sun goes down.

Re: 100 degree heat index in the shade

I smoke more cigars during the summer months. I don't like sitting in the wind from a fan to smoke my pipe. We just had a rain shower here followed by bright sunshine and the humidity has skyrocketed. No way I will smoke a pipe outside today. Just look for those brief moments of relief and enjoy them to thier fullest. Watch out for those skeeterdactyles after the sun goes down!!

I smoke inside when I want but I also enjoy sitting outside by the pool, or on occasion IN the pool on my floating chair complete with cup holders.

I actually enjoy the pool alot just gotta be careful not to drop the ol' briar in the drink

Re: 100 degree heat index in the shade

I tried the car thing about 6 years back on my last vehicle. Had the AC on high puffing away but apparently without me realizing some of the tobacco blew out on my passenger side seat and was smoldering there. I had a nice burn mark there the next day. I guess if i bought fire resistant seat covers that might be an option.

Cigars improve my resistance to humidity.

1) drink hot tea. Sounds counterproductive, but it will actually cool you down.

2) eat fresh cucumber. I don't know why it works, but it does.

3) take a hot shower - works the same as drinking hot tea.

4) occasionally drop a few ice cubes down your pants. At the very least, it will temporarily distract you from the heat !

are we related? sounds like what my pappy used to tell me. Must be an Alabama thing.

Any way I tried the Cigar suggestion from "SmokinJohnny" and smoked a El Rico Habano Corona Suprema out in the heat (shade ofcoarse) and it was a bit cooler than the pipe. It could be a rather expensive summer if I rely on cigars though.

Re: 100 degree heat index in the shade

With the temps here lately at or near the mid-90's and then factoring in the 80% to 95% humidity, I am soooooooo glad my dear Wife allows me to smoke my pipes indoors.
