How many angels can dance on the head of a thread-bare question?
Scenario: You are presented with a "way-back machine" that will take you to any place and any period between the late 60's and mid 70's, and given a spending limit of $1000, all of which must be spent on pipes, tobacco or tobacco related items (no spending of the grand on the IPO of SAP Global). This purchase could be acquire a ton of a carver's earlier work, a tobacco that is no longer produced. Hey, it's your "dream". What would you do with the money and one shot opportunity?
While not having thoroughly thought my wish out, I would probably scarf of as much of the Balkan Sobraine Luxury 759 as I could lay my paws on. Ebay half (at roughly a 10,000% mark up) and enjoy the other half during special occasions. Tins of 759, bearing production dates in the 60's and in mint condition aren't exactly common in the late 2000's .So, what'll it be? Da' Bear |

That's a tough one but I think without more knowledge of pipe history I'd have to second your choice and maybe throw in a few Dunhill tins as well.

Re: How many angels can dance on the head of a thread-bare question?
I think most of the pre-transition Barling's were sold by the late '60's so I'd buy a grand's worth of Cope's Escudo. But knowing how I am, I'd probably end up smoking it all up myself.

Was Bo Nord carving back then. I would get what I could of his with the $1000. Knowing me I would blow it on cigaretts.
Mr Lordi, you have derailed several threads latley with your "being provacative" crap. You think we might stick to pipes and tobacco for a bit.

Never mind, cypress PM'ed me, didn't see it.
How about I just take the $1000 bucks, travel to the 1960's and buy up all original formula OTC's. That is what I would do...also buy all those Dr.Garbows that were rare...forget what kind they were, but I know there was.

Since its so difficult to get 'new' Escudo, I suppose I'd blow it all on the old stuff. Either way: gotta have it!

I try out some classics that I never got to. I'd probably spend the rest on Dunhills - mostly for an investment and some wild Stanwell shapes from back in the day (for smoking).

Re: How many angels can dance on the head of a thread-bare question?
With exception of Dr Grabs and Prince Albert, I wasn't aware of what was around back then. If I could fly back, I would probably get a Savinelli 7 day set, a pile of Nordings, Dunhill Nightcap and Royal Yacht (were they around?), along with a few cartons of Camels and Lucky Strikes.

Cool question.
I'd be in Denmark cruising Suhrs Pipeworks and other shops watching for the latest from Peter Brakner, Emil Chonowitsch, Bjorn Bengtson, Tom Eltang and Anne Julie. With my 2009 budget at 1960's prices. Dag.
