Burley & BBQ for Dad's Day

A little after 1:00 PM today, after putting a beautiful mustard glaze and applying my top-secret "Dale's BBQ Rub" very liberally, I put 2 half-cut Boston Butts (about 17 Lbs total) in the smoker. Now, I'm relaxing indoors and enjoying some PA in a MM Country Gentleman.

I'll look in on the pork from time-to-time throughout the afternoon and evening hours to check the progress. I'll add pecan wood as needed to keep the smoke just right. It should be ready to take out around 3:00 AM or so. Then it'll get wrapped in heavy-duty foil and be placed lovingly in a 48 qt cooler to rest as all the juices are reabsorbed back into the tender meat. Then it's off to bed.

At 6:00 AM tomorrow, it's time to get up, load the Wife's van and we'll head out to upstate South Carolina to spend Father's Day weekend with my daughter and her family. Hoping to leave here around 8:00 AM, which should put us arriving there at about 11:30 AM. The Boston Butts will become some yummy chopped and pulled pork shortly after our arrival. It and whatever my daughter makes will be a fantastic Dad's Day feast. Some of the best time on the trip is the hour's talking with my dear Wife while in route to and from.

Of course, we'll get some quality grand-baby snugglin's in while we're there all weekend and enjoy some BBQ now and again. I'll be on the backyard deck in the swing, with a pipe in hand or in the pool with my grand-babies as often as possible I'm sure. Supposed to hit 103 degrees on Saturday so probably moreso in the pool. I'm hoping to take a look-see around town while there for any tobacco shops. We'll just have to see how it goes.

We're all packed and ready to load it all up for the weekend. Along with the overnight bag is a pouch each of PA, CH, H&H, along with 2 MM cobs, a 1/2 bent Dr Grabow Viscount, and various cleaners/tools. My weekend it set!!!

Ahhh..."grand-baby snugglin" has got to be the best part of the weekend...even though every other part of it sounds great!

Happy fathers day to you, as well, Dale. I'm looking forward to hanging out with my old man and my son on Sunday. I'm hoping to throw in a stogie and a pipe at some point.

I get to go golfing with my Dad, Grandpa, Uncles, and Brother on fathers day. I'm not a dad, but all of them are. Hopefully I can get a good smoke in.

It was ready, as expected, around 3 AM. As I took it out of the smoker, a few small pieces stuck to the grate and naturally, they became a tasty, late night snack.

It's going to be roasting hot, then stormy rainy, here in South Florida. So my daughters and granddaughter are taking me to a movie and then to a nice restaurant, which sounds like a plan to me! Happy Fathers Day, Dale, and to all the fathers and grandpas out there!

Just a quick update and closure for my weekend.

We had a great time. Lots of hugs and kisses and BBQ. I am so proud of my daughter to be where she is in her life, especially considering her mom (my 2nd x), but I'll leave it at that. The tears started when it came time to say goodbye, but they will be visiting us for the whole first week of July and my Wife and I can hardly wait.
