I'd say good picks on the GLP side. TBH I haven't had any of the McClelland virginias you've listed, but I've tried a bunch of their stuff and so far I think their bulk 5100 and the tinned blackwoods flake are two of their best offerings, and if you can find it the tinned anniversary is great too, it's a virginia with some latakia.

I haven't had McCranie's Red Ribbon (at least by itself, it plays a delightful role in sounds7's homemade BS which I have tasted) but it's very highly regarded.

5x Missouri Meerschaum (2 or 3 to myself, the rest to offer)

still looking for a burley blend.

Also C&D has a page on their website devoted to burley blends, worth checking out.

McCranies is wonderful stuff even by itself. If you like 5100 you owe it to yourself to try Red Ribbon. The curing process is different from 5100 which I find sweeter in flavor than Red Ribbon. They are similar tobaccos though and Red Ribbon is made by McClelland for McCranies so you know they use good Virginia tobacco in it.

Another difference, The Red Ribbon is crop specific, the 5100 Red Cake is not.

How about C&D Junkyard Dawg? I'm curious about the burley/latakia combination...

I've gone through tobaccoreviews, but your opinions can be precious.

Burley pretty much absorbs the flavor of whatever its mixed with but it softens the experience somewhat. Case in point "KingFisher" is really a Va/Per with some Burley in it and it smokes very smooth compared to other Va/pers. I unfortunately have never tasted Junkyard Dog or i'd give more help.

Re: Advise on american made virginias and english/balkan blends

I had never spent time browsing through the american online stores before... man, what an incredible assortment of pipes and tobaccos.

pipesandcigars list of pipes for sale is just insane... I canīt resist on buying one (at least, I mean... oh boy, PAD is really hitting me).

So, not wanting to spend much, I'm looking at Bjarne, specially at the Viking Skagen line... any word on those?
