Question Pipe Accessories and Airport Security

Gents,

I will be doing some air travel soon and was wondering if my pipe tool would make it through security? Anyone have experience with this?

If this has been addressed already I'd appreciate a pointer.

Thanks

Absolutely, if it's not in your carry on. Otherwise, as you probably guessed the poker would be the only hold up.

Don't chance taking any in your carry on luggage. Also if you have a butane lighter they may make a big deal. What I do is empty it completely of all its fuel and then look for a refill canister later or i take matches. All this in my Checked baggage ofcoarse.

Re: Pipe Accessories and Airport Security

you're not supposed to take matches in checked luggage anymore either. you are allowed two books in your carry on. They're also picky about lighters now. No butane is allowed, and regular lighters (zippo, bic, etc) are supposed to have a special tsa approved carrying case, and be in the checked bag.

I've heard of plenty of people getting away with bringing em, but it just wasn't worth the hassle in my mind.

When I flew recently I kept the pipes in my carry on, the rest of it went in the checked bag, and I picked up matches & a lighter after I landed.

Re: Pipe Accessories and Airport Security

The last time I flew abroad (April) I put "the tool" along with lighters into the checked-in bag. The zippo was filled and double ziplocked (I didn't know if I could find zippo fluid where I was going), it lasted me the whole two weeks. The butane lighter was hissed into emptiness and packed with the shaving gear.

But the funny thing was, I ended up using wooden matches that I picked up there. And the zippo on windy days.

Re: Pipe Accessories and Airport Security

What about the pipes? I guess their shape, under the x-ray, may puzzle the controlers, if carried on the checked luggage...

on the other hand, any problems taking 4 or 5 pipes in the carry on bag?

I don't think they will worry that you

They didn't say anything about mine in my carry on, which was x-rayed. I usually have to book my flights last minute so I always expect to have all my stuff torn apart at the airport, but luckily I got to book this flight early this time.

Just look what I've found on a old thread, about the HCA churchwarden:

No problems for me on the Ireland trip. Brought pipes in the carry on, and put tools and baccy in the checked luggage. I didn't bother with lighters because I heard they might be a pain. Just picked up some matches on the other side of the pond.

I don't think the wood part would even show up on the xray. I know wood doesn't in a medical xray. My dad stuck a small branch about four inches into his arm when I was a kid. The hospital said that it wouldn't show up in the xray. Thats been many years so things may have changed by now.
