Stocking Up

Well I just got my order in today. Couldn't get my favourite Squadron Leader but was able to get Penzance in it's stead. Here's what I ordered:

4 tins St. James Flake

4 Tins 1792 Flake

6 Tins Penzance

2 Tins Kendall Cream Flake

2 Tins Black XX rope

2 Tins Chocolate Flake

4 Tins Firedance Flake

4 Tins Full Va Flake

2 100g tins Erinmore Flake

4 Tins Wessex Burley Slices

With the Salmon season at it's height here in Alaska and me working all the extra hours I may put some of that wealth into more tobacco tins before flying back to the Philippines. At least in the PI the gov't doesn't mess with smokers.

I presume you made an online purchase, unless there is a good B&M in Alaska. Was SL out of stock completely? I've had that problem; availability for that and other favorite blends has been in and out of stock for weeks now.

Re: Stocking Up

Very nice purchase. Mine looks very similar, except some I will purchase by the pound like 1792, FVF, and Black XX.

Quite the tobacco buffet you've got there. I foresee many evenings of smoking pleasure in your future.

Leave any for the rest of us?

Yeah, SL seems to be out everywhere....I just looked again today and none of the vendors I checked had it available.

Very nice order there Louis! ... I know you'll enjoy every puff!

With the $$$ being pretty tight lately, I'm hoping soon to get a fix for some serious TAD that's been building up for a while now.

Re: Stocking Up

SL seems to be back, but unless I just have a faulty memory, the bulk price gave me serious sticker shock; I thought I remembered it being cheaper than it is...

Re: Stocking Up

I'm getting my pipesandcigars order, including 5 SL tins, on Monday. This favorite tobacco seems to be back then, at least for the time being.

Well now you've gone and done it, I checked out Pipesandcigars.com and SL was indeed in stock so after another $100+ order I have 5 tins SL on the way and just for kicks 3 tins Grousmoor, 2 tins Commonwealth Mixture and 5 100g tins Erinmore Flake plus a restock on pipe cleaners. Jeez now I know what they mean about the slope.

Re: Stocking Up

Jumping on the bandwagon I just placed an order with pipesandcigars:

Penzance (they were out of bulk stock)
Navy Flake
Plum Pudding
Squadron Leader
Pembroke
Froggy Sampler (sounded interesting, anyone have experience with these?)
BCA

Sadly, they were out of Bill Baily's Balkan.

Lookin' forward to good puffs...

I'm farther down that slope than you are, so if you see me ahead as you slide down, please take off the spiked shoes. That SL order completes my little SL cache of 15 tins. I also ordered some Grousemoor, by the way. I've never tried it.

No spikes only combat boots lol. I've never tried the Grousemoor myself, it seems to get mixed reviews on tobaccoreviews.com but then again so does 1792 flake and I like that. I've never been one to detect the "soapy" flavour that everyone says is inherent in Lakeland tobaccos. Last night with most of the people gone home my night watchman job was a breeze so I fired up a nice pipeful of FVF... ah heaven.

I wouldn't worry about the soapy smell. Its some smells that come from lack of soap that we should dread. Fear the reeker. My impression, accurate or erroneous as it may be, is that aromatics usually get mixed reviews, while most Virginia blends tend to get higher ones. Just try to identify reviewers whose opinions and judgement you can relate to. For example, my top preference is not aromatics, but there are some that I like. These I found by forcing myself out of the category rut. Some aros I've never liked - at all - and will never try again. Others, like Butternut Burley, McB Navy Flake, W.O. Larsen's Old Fashioned, and McC Mocha Black I smoke fairly frequently. Doing so helps me avoid falling into a rut with the English/Balkan blends that are my mainstay. These nice, relaxing aros provide me with some variety and change. And none of them give me tongue bite.
