Re: Favorite MM Cob ??
I like the natural cobs, the ones that are white as opposed to yellow; For looks, that is, and great for smoking as well. For use, I rather prefer the big MacArthur types, because they have deep bowls. Normal cobs have way to small of a bowl. Not nearly as long as the one he had though. They sell a nice smaller MacArthur as well.

Re: Favorite MM Cob ??
Right now I'd say it's a toss up between the straight Country Gentleman and the straight Great Dane Spool. I only have one bent, and it was a pain to get a pipe cleaner through, so I stuck with straights. I've got a General, but it's just too big. I wouldn't dare get a Mac!

Only have one right now, a straight Washington. It smokes very nice. I also see a wooden bottomed Diplomat in my future.

Re: Favorite MM Cob ??
My favorite is a Great Dane Egg, but the damn stem needs to be replaced all the time. I will put the sucker in my mouth and the plastic stem breaks right at the bend.
I also have two Patriots that are nice smokers. |

Re: Favorite MM Cob ??
I like the looks of the country gent, but man the cheapness of the stems just makes me not want to smoke them.

Re: Favorite MM Cob ??
![]() The Patriot (or is it General?) is my favorite (pictured top). The size and shape of it say, "Yeah, I'm smoking a cob, what of it!?". Despite the bowl height of 2 3/4 inches, the bowl is a large, but a manageable 2 inches deep. The walls are uniformly thick, and there's a wood plug in the base. I've got a few problems with the Country Gentlemen (bottom). While I like bent pipes - 1/4 bents the best - Missouri Meerschaums bent stems stink. They don't easily past a small pipe cleaner through that kink in the stem. That kink seems cheap and lazy anyhow -- how hard would it be to manufacture an actual bend? The walls are thick in the middle, but thin at the tops and bottom - owing to the barrel shape. In my experience, this model is easier to burn out than it's thicker-walled cousins The Patriot, Dane, and Diplomat (not pictured). The pipe does have a wood plug, and it gets style points, but that's about it from me. I've actually heated and attempted to straighten out the kink in the stem here. Compare the angle to the other pipe posted above.

Re: Favorite MM Cob ??
I think they are all made with molded plastic that has been bent into shape.

They're all cheap plastic, with the possible exception of that monster "freehand" they make (never seen one in person). Again, a 25¢ rubber bit does wonders to the feel of the stems. The two standard shapes are bent and straight, which you can see in my above picture.
