Love that Escudo!

I got a couple of tins of Escudo tonight...one to trade and one to smoke, and man is this stuff good! I've only smoked one bowl so I'm nowhere near writing a review but wanted to share my enthusiasm. I read some good things about it, but only ended up ordering it because it was a request in a trade exchange. Mmmmm...that's all I can say at this point.

Yes, yes. Escudo is some great stuff. Seems a little hard to get sometimes but worth the effort.

Yum. Escudo.

Many others hold their own, slide gently down the scale or disappoint; only one comes to my mind that raises the bar.

Not to go so far off topic but how was the trip out west?

Re: Love that Escudo!

I just received two tins of Escudo. One in a trade (was in the previous owner's cellar since June of 2007) and one from Cup o' Joes. Haven't popped one yet to try because I have so many tins open right now, I wanna smoke some of them before opening new stuff. I'm very excited to try it though.

4000 miles to Devils Tower, Mt. Rushmore, Black Hills, the Badlands, Cinci chili, Chicago pizza and back in a Suburban with wife, daughter and 96-year old Mom. It was, I swear, an unexpectedly great pleasure from blastoff to touchdown. Every American should know have a chance to experience the power of this monument and the staggering beauty of South Dakota. I was awestruck.

I will screen this shameless digression by adding I smoked a few bowls of Escudo along the way.

Re: Love that Escudo!

i love it as well.
some say that Dunhill De Luxe Navy Rolls are one and the same, but i've had them both open at the same time, and they were different. could've just been from different batches, but they tasted nothing alike to me.

Re: Love that Escudo!

Ah, yes, Escudo! Ah, yes, yes, yes!

Love the stuff, can't stop buying tins of it. Improves dramatically with age, if such a thing were even concievable. Currently have a year+ aged tin that is tantalizingly fermenty smelling, mmmm!

And yes, LGF is good stuff too. More "body" to it, if that is the correct verbage. But the flavor of Escudo is just perfectly balanced, between the sweet and the spice, and it burns picture perfectly no matter how one fills the pipe. Their label claims it is "scientifically" made, but I would have to say it smokes "spiritually". Zen moments, ying yangs, and all that sort of stuff, I say.

Re: Love that Escudo!

Received my first tin of Escudo a couple of days ago and have smoked two bowls thus far. I really enjoy it. I've been enjoying Virginia's recently and this is my first Vaper. It's got a little something extra, (obviously the perique), but I can't quite describe the flavor....zippy? I don't know, anyway, one thing I do know is that it's intriguing. I'm not sure what you guys do when trying a new tobacco, but I think I'm gonna just smoke this tin exclusively all the way through to really develop an opinion and better feel for the flavors.
