Hearth and Home

I've read some good things on these blends and wanted to give them a try. In my effort to put back a decent supply of tobacco before any legislation in my state follows that of Utah and Washington, I ordered up a pound of Larry's Blend and a pound of Anniversary Kake. A large order to see if I like it, but I feel pressure to stock up at this point. I'm sure that if it's not to my liking I'll easily find someone to pass it on to.

The reviews of both are quite positive, I'm hoping for the same experience. Any Hearth and Home fans here?

Re: Hearth and Home

Oh, yeah. My return to the pipe led me in short order to try one of their samplers. My favorites so far are Anniversary Kake and Marble Kake, although I'd give a thumbs up to Rolando's Own as well. AJ's and Virginia Spice, however, were not for me. I just this month got four ounces each of Larry's Blend, Daybreak and Obsidian; figured I'd give their English blends a try as well. At this point I'd say Larry's Blend is a keeper, I don't know about the other two yet.

As you say, if either of the two you're trying aren't your cup of tea, you shouldn't have any problem being stuck with them.

I agree with you about stocking up.

I'd like to get my hands on some Anni Kake soon... I tried Virginia Spice and thought it's pretty decent. Also wanna try some of the Burley Kake. That stuff any good?
Anyway, good idea on the stocking up. I've been trying to do the same thing here.

I love AJ's VaPer. It's great for the price...though SG St. James Flake isn't too much more expensive, and I think it's far superior...then again that might just be because I prefer a flake.

Re: Hearth and Home

I think the Classic Burley Cake is a great burley on the softer side of burleys. AJ's Vaper is one of my favorite vapers, and Louisiana Red is no slouch, either. I was less enamored of Anni Kake but I think it's high quality. I have a tin of H&H Burley that I haven't cracked yet and some Rolando's is on its way! Russ is a great blender, and a real sleeper.

Yeah, the VA Elite one was what made sure I didn't change my mind on smoking a pipe.

Re: Hearth and Home

I'd recommend Sunza Bitches, I love it & smoke it a couple times a week.

Re: Hearth and Home

A couple of months ago I got a surprise free sampler of Lousiana Red included in a fairly large order. I smoked it in a couple of days. Sweet...

Re: Hearth and Home

Anniversary Kake, Classic Burley Kake, and Sunza Bitches are all excellent smokes, and all very different.

The burley kake, I didn't love at first, but it grows on you, and I can see it becoming an all day smoke for many people.

The sunza bitches is strong, but you will get addicted to it. Try a few ounces of each, I'm sure you'll be ordering by the pound of at least one. I have several pounds of Anniversary Kake aging in the cellar, and am getting ready to order the other two as well.

Re: Hearth and Home

They are by far my favorite bulks. My order of preference from the blends that I have tried from there so far:

AJ's VaPer
Scotty's Old Red
Rolando's Own
Louisiana Red
Anniv. Kake
Marble Kake
Sunza Bitches
Virginia Spice
Trout Stream

Re: Hearth and Home

Let's see...if I had to rank the ones I've tried, I think it would go like this:

Anniversary Kake
Marble Kake
Daybreak
Rolando's Own
Larry's Blend
Obsidian
Virginia Spice
AJ's VaPer

The last two I won't be ordering again, and Obsidian I haven't made up my mind about.

Re: Hearth and Home

My order arrived this evening and is jarred up for storage. Larry's Blend smells great (although the flakes seem a bit small and tattered), and the Anniversary Kake looks good enough to eat. I kept out a little of the Kake to try soon and will probably separate a little of the Blend to try too.

It usually takes me 2 of the quart sized Mason jars to stash a pound of tobacco, but I was able to fit the Kake in one. I left it compressed for storage.
