Introducing a Friend to the Pipe

A friend of mine who is a cigarette smoker has shown interest in getting into pipe. He'd like to give up the cigs and make the switch if he can.

We're getting together this Saturday so I can show him the basics. I bought him an MM on the way home tonight and will give him some tobacco and necessary items to take home if he thinks he'll enjoy it.

This is the second person I know of that is switching to pipe here in Florida after the cigarette tax hike. If I've seen 2 in my small circle of friends, I'm sure there are more around the state doing the same thing. That just means it's only a matter of time until the politicians catch on and target pipe tobacco more than they already have.

Anyway, not trying to turn this negative. I'm looking forward to sharing the hobby with a friend this weekend.

If he's a cig smoker, PA is a good start. Always nice to introduce someone to the pipe. Pipe buds can be few and far between these days.

I'd be lucky to find another pipe smoker in South Florida, even with the hike on cigarettes. The state tax hike has affected pipe tobacco too, and although not as much as cigarettes, some B&M's are gouging prices on pipe tobacco - according to friends in other parts of the state. It seems to them that the B&M sellers are adding a higher percentile increase than the law requires. But it's difficult to get reliable and accurate information on all these changes and taxation accruals.

Heres another vote for Prince albert, add a cob pipe, and put those cigarettes down.

Pipe friends are great. I was lucky to have one of my friends make the switch not too long ago.

I hate to say it but since leaving cigs behind I have drawn 2 more to our ranks where I work. We all love the taste and nicotine of the virginias. Tilbury, best brown, full virginia flake, ect ect.

I mean when you can buy a tin for almost the same price as a pack of smokes...there is no contest.

I never got into cigs, but that's a great point.

We had a good time today. We watched a couple movies, did some flight sim, had a few drinks, and sampled a few different tobacco blends. He enjoyed the pipe and plans to pursue it further. I sent him home with his new MM, some pipe cleaners, and a mason jar full of my PA/Mature Virginia blend. He's got a pipe nail at home, so he should be all set.
