leaving the bowl packed?
I have tried to search on this but came up empty. Would it be harmful to a pipe to pack it and then leave it packed for a day or two while in a plastic bag?

Re: leaving the bowl packed?
No.
I often keep a loaded pipe in my man-purse for emergencies. |

Re: leaving the bowl packed?
I pre-load a pipe or two all the time, to let the tobacco dry a little for the next day. Simply grab, light, and you're all set.

Re: leaving the bowl packed?
I agree. I pack a couple of pipes in the morning. That way when I want a smoke later in the day I'm all set.

Re: leaving the bowl packed?
I agree too. The best smokes I've had were bowls I loaded a day or two prior to smoking.

Re: leaving the bowl packed?
... and some good/great smokes have come from bowls half-smoked, put aside, and picked up the next day. Go figure. Pipe tobak isn't like a cigar in these respects.

Re: leaving the bowl packed?
Agreed. I usually load one in the morning and don't get to it until afternoon/evening.

Re: leaving the bowl packed?
Sometimes, before packing it in for the night, I pack, er, fill two pipes and apply the false light to each. This singed layer keeps the tobacco fresher and tastier IMO. I then smoke these pipes the next day and they are good smokes.

Re: leaving the bowl packed?
No problem at all. I've done it many times, including half-smoked bowls that I'd left from the day or two before.

Re: leaving the bowl packed?
I'm glad this thread came up...I've been wanting to take a filled pipe to work and puff on it during breaks. Now I can do this with no concerns about damaging my pipe or whatever. Thanks!

Just be sure that you will not be bouncing the pipe around or the baccy will spill out or get mis-packed. With partially burnt contents, be absolutely sure the fire is out - and that ash won't scatter all over. Don't leave pre-filled pipes alone in the car for any length of time. The heat and/or humidity will affect the taste.

Re: leaving the bowl packed?
I've never had a problem with relighting a bowl that has sat. In fact, I fired up the remains of a bowlful of Fillmore when I got home from work this evening that I didn't finish last night.

Same here, usually I sit down to do a reloading set, light up for an hour then return the next day to finish with the same pipe. Good to see I'm not the only one who does this. |
