McClelland Grand Orientals Drama Reserve

Sorry if this has been talked about before but I didn't feel like lurking. I picked up a tin of this while purchasing some bulk tobacco at the local store. I just grabbed it upon impulse while checking out and am so glad I did. I think within a day it had jumped into my number one favorite tobacco category. I'm not too familiar with the drama leaf but the tin description describes it as an olive oil flavor but I'd say it seems like chicory roasted in olive oil. I just finished the tin but it has ghosted some of my pipes in the best way possible. I may mix a tin with some neutral tasting burly to stretch it a little as it's not the most affordable. Anyway, if you like orientals but hate the way they make your house smell give this a try. It really has an amazing room note unlike anything I've tried.

Re: McClelland Grand Orientals Drama Reserve

This one is in my steady rotation as well. I've got 5 tins in my cellar and one open. Great stuff! You might also try the Smyrna and the Yenidje Supreme if you decide to further your explorations. And since you're a newbie here, here's some advice. Don't throw away the tobaccos you don't like! Once you have enough posts on this site, you'll be able to go to the tobacco trading forum and you can trade in what you don't like for something else. Your trash can fodder is someone else's nirvana, and vice versa.

Glad to hear you like it too. I have several tins sitting around that I will try to get on the trading forum.

That Drama Reserve is probably my favorite Oriental. Good stuff.

Drama, Smyrna, Classic Samsun, Yjende Highlander are all amazing. The series really makes you scratch your head and wonder why these amazing and distinctive tobaccos are usually lumped together under the blanket "orientals". It doesn't take a connoisseur's tongue to understand the nuances of each variety.

The Drama and Samsun are in my steady rotation, the latter being one of the most distinctive tobaccos I've ever smoked. The Smyrna and the Yenidje Supreme are also very good. I found the Yenice Agonya and Katerini a little too subtle to be fully enjoyed and I haven't tried the Highlander.

No, that's just a side benefit.

Do I hear a plea for free samples??? What have you smoked and enjoyed in the past? I'll see what I have open in my cellar to send to you to further your trip to the poor house. I may as well have some company!

Re: McClelland Grand Orientals Drama Reserve

No, I appreciate the offer, but I'm such a newbie I'd have no way to return the favor and then I'd feel guilty. I'm sure I'll venture into this area soon enough; it's just that as a relatively new pipe smoker, there's so much to explore I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed! On the other hand, I have this theory that I can delay the onset of PAD by totally giving in to TAD...

Tobacco is cheap.
It's the constant urge for another pipe that'll kill ya.

Let me know if you change your mind. There's no need to "return the favor". Pipe smokers are a brotherhood... when one of us cuts himself, the rest of us... uh... well... we at least provide bandaids!

Seriously, lots of us have provided samples to newbies. At least 5 members have sent me samples and wouldn't accept anything in return. I've done the same for others. We don't keep score.

I'm interested in the Yenidje Supreme.... How is that pronounced anyway? Is it like Yenidge? Sorry, don't mean to threadjack.

Re: McClelland Grand Orientals Drama Reserve

I've always pronounced it "Yen-id-gee" but it's probably more exotic than that.
