HCA Estate Pipe

I'm a huge fan of Stanwell pipes. I've been eying the Hans Christian Anderson churchwardens for some time but never pulled the trigger on one. I got a churchwarden from Ebay earlier this week that's going back to the seller, a true dog and not even fit for smoking...not what he claimed it to be.

Tonight however, I was looking at the offerings and found a Stanwell HCA and put in a bid that I was sure would get trampled on. More than I normally spend on an estate pipe, but a price I'm very comfortable with for this one. Anyway, I won and I'm happy.

Nice pipe Kevin. Congrats. I like CWs and made CW stems for all my freehands and a couple of other pipes too. Theyre cool in the proper place and time.

Re: HCA Estate Pipe

Congrats! I have loved the HCA from the very moment that I first bought one in the mid nineties.

As a somewhat funny aside, I was describing a load of HCA's when Tom Eltang and Peter Heeschen walked into my office. Tom grinned, and start going through them (Tom has contributed more than a few designs to Stanwell). Peter looked at me and his Danish accent took on an almost "Arnold" Austrian tinge to it "Bah! Hans Christian Andersen wasn't even a smoookah!" Tom chuckled, and they both walked out of my office and down the hall. I paused a second and yelled "I suppose that next you'll tell me that there's no Santa Claus?!" Peter called back, "Maybe not, but at least he smokes a pipe!"

Re: HCA Estate Pipe

I´ve only smoked my new HCA about 10 or 12 times, but from my pipes it is by far the one that burns the hottest... like, unbearable hot on the hands! I still hope it gets to smoke at a normal temperature when cake starts to take over.
So far, I'm disapointed with it (though it smokes quite smoothly).
