Looking for a tin suggestion...

Okay, the time for another tobacco order is swiftly approaching (feels like Christmas used to feel!), but I have a slight problem. I need to break $100 for the free shipping, but I'm stuck at $97.08, and for the life of me can't figure out what other tin to pick up to get me over the top. Part of this is because I'm so new at this that there's WAY too many tobaccos I want to try; part is because I'm just too wishy-washy anyways. I mean, it's not like it's my last order ever.

SO, how about a hand? What tobacco do I really need to try, and quickly? Help me out here! To help you help me, keep in mind that FVF, Squadron Leader, Union Square, Interlude, Opening Night and Manhattan Afternoon are already on the order. The only tins I've tried that aren't on the order are...well, let's just say that any MacBaren suggestions will be quietly ignored, okay? In fact, let's just avoid aromatics altogether. Virginias, English Blends, VaPers are all fine and dandy.

What do I need to try?

SG Commonwealth is a nice blend. Or, you could just add a few bundles of pipe cleaners to take you over the top...my usual play.

Take care not to rule out the little rectangular tin of MacBarens Navy Flake if you favor VA tobaks; it is a very good example of the genre, excellent taste and quality, premium package and moderately priced.

There are a bunch of nice burley blends out there. I don't like them much so you can have my share. Haddo's, as mentioned, along with the universally moaned-over Butternut Burley, Prince Albert and Carter Hall are all worth trying.

You also have a blank spot in the cavendish department. The McClelland Navy Cavendish is rum-topped but all-in-all a lovely smoke from start to finish.

I have to respectfully disagree with my bovine friend, here. Navy Flake needs age to really get it to shine, in my opinion. The Va's are way too young, it seems. Beginning is sweet tasting, then it moves on to the gassy VA taste, which isn't bad, but not as refined as if it was aged right. If you get a tin, wait a bit, I say.

You know what you can't go wrong with? Artisan Blend by Ashton. This is, my new favorite, since I can't get Dunhill Nightcap anymore.

Also Irish Flake by Peterson is pretty good. Five Brothers is also good, and so isn't Black XX, but these are strong tobacco. lol

Samuel Gawith St James flake is one of my favorite's. For the hell of it, I'd also suggest some Samuel Gawith 1792 flake. Just leave it sealed until your tolerance builds up.

Re: Looking for a tin suggestion...

I'll second Peterson Irish Flake...their University Flake is good, too.

I just got into Escudo and it's a great smoke. Great flavour!

GLP Haddo's Dekight. A vaper on 'roids!! Yum!!

If you want something that will give you a good kick in the pants...GH Dark Flake Unscented. Repect it, though.

One thing you should do to help you decide when you should smoke a tin of McB's NF to look at the back of the tin for the date. I have three tins of this stuff and they all read October 2008. Oh I think they're ready for me now. But you might want it to let the tin rest a day or two after you've popped the lid. It makes a big difference, in my experience.
