Re: Why did you give up pipes?

I've never "given it up" but I have taken some breaks from it over the years. I've always smoked a pipe - never cigs or cigars. I only smoke when I feel like it and when I can enjoy it. It's not a "habit" or addiction for me. I do it because I love it.

There have been times when I wasn't in the mood for it so put the pipes in a shoe box where they sat for a year or two. When I was in the mood for it out they came and my passion was re-newed for however long I felt like smoking. This has happened a few times since 1981 when I first took up my first MM cob.

I dearly love smoking a pipe and for the past two years now they've seen regular use and I see no end in sight at this point. I've been enjoying it now more than ever before in fact.

Once you've invested in some decent pipes just store them if you reach a period where you don't feel like smoking for awhile. Don't sell them or trash them - they'll last a lifetime so put them away and you may very well reach for them again one day and be delighted to find them awaiting you... I have some pipes that are well over 20 yrs old and they're dear old friends.

Re: Why did you give up pipes?

I use to smoke a pipe all the time until I developed TMJ,,,guess I clenched too hard and that transferred to my having my TMJ being aggravated. I'd love to start again but have my anxiety about it returing if I start again. Took me years to get it to go away. Anyone know how to keep pipe smoking without aggravating this?

Its that easy? I hate having to keep a pipe in my hand all the time,,,guess that is why I love cigars more.

I gave up pipes because of risk of mouth cancer. I keep a pipe in my mouth. I don,t do this with cigars. I know there is still risk -- but I believe it is less
