Question on breaking in a new pipe.

I recently bought two new stanwells, one is an estate and the other is brand new. Currently I only smoke aromatics and was wondering if it would be wise to break the pipe in with those or should I break it in with a non-aromatic tobacco? I have never smoked a non-aromatic but might go to my local B&M tomorrow and pick one up. Any suggestions on what a good non-aromatic starter tobacco would be?

I think one of the nest "break-in" tobaccos is an OTC Burley. PA and CH are my top 2 picks. A purer based tobacco will make a better cake..... ie: all Burley, all VA, etc.

Try Price Albert or Carter Hall. Both seem to help build cake quickly and will not leave any flavors off flavors in the pipe.

Re: Question on breaking in a new pipe.

I agree that a burley tobacco is about the best break-in tobacco there is. Burleys seem to provide strong cake. Any unflavored burley will do and I'll wager your B&M carries Stokkebye's "Pressed Burley", albeit under their own shop name. Just ask for unflavored white burley. Makes a great cake. If it's too bland, mix it with 25% of your favorite aromatic blend.

On the other hand, you might just want to break in your pipe with the tobacco you plan to smoke in it! Some people overpuff on aromatics, but if you're careful, they will work just fine.

Five Brothers is burley and is cheap and loaded with N, it should work fine
