New Pipe Smoker

Well I have smoked a cigar occasionally but got tired of paying 6-8$ a smoke from my local place...I order a Kaywoodie campus pipe and a tin of McBarens Vanilla Cream and London Burley, and a tin of Nordings Foxhound. Hopefully these are decent to start with? I'll probably pick up a cob pipe soon.
This forum seems to have a wealth of information and I'm learning what I can, waiting for my order to arrive.

Re: New Pipe Smoker

Welcome to the world of the pipe. I know how you feel about cigars. I love cigars but those get expensive to expensive to have one a day to relax. I do have some but i only afford to have about one a week. During the empty period i have my pipe a few times a day. 5 bucks in pipe tobacco can go a long way compared to cigars. Welcome and im sure everyone will do their best to help you with any questions and i will try my best. but ive only been smoking pipe almost two years so i dont have an extremely high knowledge but i do know the basics and more

Re: New Pipe Smoker

Thanks for the reply and welcome, I only smoke very occasionally, once a week would be alot for me, even so I think pipe tobacco is affordable enough I can indulge a little more often.

If you can suggest any blends that you have liked, or would be good for a beginner to me I sure would appreciate it.Will the Nording Foxhound or McBaren London Burley be good to break in the pipe?

I highly recommend reading through the sticky Pipe FAQ/101/Getting Started and the sticky Ask A Pipe Guy. Both contain a wealth of great information on all aspects of pipe enjoyment.

Nice choice of tobacco but try to smoke the MacBaren's slowly. They like to bite.

Re: New Pipe Smoker

Welcome, Evan!

The Mac Baren Burley is a good choice for a cigar smoker. Not sure you'll like the Frog but give it a go.

As mentioned, smoke slowly. The pipe can be a wonderful friend but they do often go out, especially in a new pipe. Avoid overpuffing to keep it lit. If it wants to go out, let it, and just relight. Nice slow even puffing! Enjoy!

8 days??? Something is amiss. Have they contacted you as to why it's so tardy? Perhaps they're out of stock on something. You may need to advise them to ship what they have rather than wait for what is OOS but that's depends on how bad you want it!

I've had mostly excellent service from pipesandcigars. They did send me a tin of something I didn't order and did not send the tin of what I did order but when I advised them, they sent out the missing tin and told me I could keep the extra one. Er... is it a good deal when you get something you don't like but it's free???
