DRY Dunhill Mixture 965 HELP!

OK, So I went to Charleston and found a pipe shop that had some OLD Dunhill 965 in a jar.

The stuff was DRY, crispy. I actually bought a cob and smoked some and for tinder, it smoked pretty well. With some humidification I think it could be quite decent.

I bought 2 ounces (so dry it looks like 4 in the bag).

How (or can) I humidfy it so it comes back to life?

Did I just waste a few bucks or did I score?

Some say put the tobacco in a container and place a wet paper towel over it, not touching the tobacco. Let it set for a few days etc.Try it and see what you get. Maybe too far gone but you never know

This is what I have used, works wonders and doesn't matter if it touches the tobacco. Just put it in a sealed container.

I know it's for cigars, but I only cellar pipe tobacco and bought it for this propose.

Me has a porous piece of ceramic from a pizza stone that I dropped; it's about 2 x 2". I soak it overnight and place it in a jar with dry tobacco and it works magic.

I use a cotton ball or some ceramic, moist them with distilled water, leave it overnight, and that's all

Re: DRY Dunhill Mixture 965 HELP!

I have put a couple humidrole type disks in the back and it seems to be helping. The tobacco is not turning to powder at the touch now.

I am going to keep moistening them and placing them in the bag until the leaf is pliant.

No fooling, when the guy weighed out two ounces of the stuff, it ended up filling the bag to the four ounce size. The stuff is DRY.

BUT!!!

If it works, I am going to get someone to by me more and some of the Nightcap that was there.

If it works, you got a great deal. The rehydrated weight will be more than the 2 ounces you paid for and more than you would have gotten if purchased at optimum humidity. When we buy tobacco, we're paying for the water too!

Re: DRY Dunhill Mixture 965 HELP!

I would say it is defintely working. The leaf is much softer and less crunchy. A few more days and I think I am going to have 2.5 - 3 ounces of useable Dunhill.
