About to order some Gawith tobacco-thoughts?
Hi all,
Haven´t been smoking that much the last couple of months but now I´m back on it. I´m about to place an order of some bulk tobacco by Samuel Gawith and Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. Looked on tobaccoreviews for baccys with three or four stars. These are the are the ones I have in mind Squadron Leader Full Virgina Flake Brown Flake by G,H & co Sliced Brown Twist by G,H & co Kendal Plug Scottish Mixture by G,H & co and a tin of Capstan Original Of the ones above I´ve tried SL and FVF before. I guess my favourite tobacco so far is Scottish Cake by McConnells. What do you do you think about this order? Any other Gawith´s I have to try? /JS |

I love Sam Gawith, don't care for most Gawith Hoggarth though. If you're ordering something new to you, you might want to get a small amount if possible

SG's Best Brown Flake is great. Also, if you never had any I recommend Capstan Mild (medium strenght, though, not really mild).

Re: About to order some Gawith tobacco-thoughts?
Haven't met a Samuel Gawith Tobacco that I didn't like (although Black XX is FREAKING strong), they're all so unique & delicious! I especially like FVF, 1792, & Bracken Flake. But like two of the gentlemen above me already said, best to try them in small quantities first.

Re: About to order some Gawith tobacco-thoughts?
Get a few tons of St.James Flake if you like Perique (as the old Scotch Cake used to be). Great stuff from Sammy G (not the brother).

Re: About to order some Gawith tobacco-thoughts?
Like Made Hatter said: I love Sammie G they don't have a blend I don't like. G&H, however, I am not a big fan of. The only blend I like by G&H is LA perique flake. If you are a fan of smoking men's bathroom soap then I suggest loading up on G&H, if not then stick with SG.

SG Bracken Flake gives a unique smoke...I love it.
Another thumb up to St James Flake.

Re: About to order some Gawith tobacco-thoughts?
I enjoy SG Squadron Leader and Best Brown Flake, both great exponents of their respective blend categories. I have some other SG tins (FVF, St. James Flake, Grousemoor) but haven't tried them yet.

You can't really go wrong with Sam Gawaith.
I like Best Brown and St. James Flake. Golden Glow is also nice. |

Re: About to order some Gawith tobacco-thoughts?
Thanks all for your input.
I will put together the order next week, guess I will focus on Sammy G and try the ones you have mentioned. I just recieved an other shipment I ordered last week so I have some baccys to go through. As I write this I´m sitting on my balcony with a bowl of Irish Flake. Quite good, although a bit strong for me. Guess I have to put it away for a while. Again, thanks for your input Johan |
