Re: Does Macbaren Navy Flake contain alcohol?
I got my 100gr tin of MB Navy Flake. I think it's dry enough to be smoked straight from the tin, when i dryed it for 15minutes to few hours it got even more bitey.
Yep, it does bite, but i can handle it by smoing veery slowly. the bite dissapears round mid bolw and the wonderflul tobacco aromas and slight casing start to get stronger.
I've been smoking this in peterson 303 sysem pipe. The best way to smoke this is to fold the flakes. This is so dry that it doese't need to be rubbed out, if rubbed the bite increases.
The tin aroma reminds me of port vine and apricots. Same king of apricot aroma that petersons sherlock holmes has, but not so strong. I don't smell any rum in the tin.
i taste mostly virginias and typical MB sweetness topped up with some kind of fruity and honey'is sweet sugary aroma. It leaves a rum aftertaste, and in my opinion rum and tobacco go very well togeather. it gives me the AHOY! -sensation.
But, i don't think i'll buy another tin. This lacks nicotine, it can very easily bite, the taste and aroma just arent strong enough for this kind of flake. I smoke outdoors and in my balcony so i prefer strong tobaccos. Also i this blend lacs virginias, maybe i'll buy some blending red virginias to mix with this.
Next stop is going to be Samuel Gawiths Navy Flake.
