Orlik Golden Sliced 50g VS 100g tins
Hey folks,
After hearing some folk on here say that OGS is maybe better than Escudo, I decided to place my order, and try it out. I got a 50g tin, the other day, and I'm totally impressed with the quality of this blend. I am also totally impressed with the packaging, as the 50g tin is amazingly compact and easily fits into any shirt pocket, while still leaving tons of room for other things. The flakes are perfectly organized in 2 stacks of about 3" X 1 1/2" pieces...everything is just great! I noticed the 100g tins looks different (typical round tin), though, and I even think I read somewhere that the tobacco in the 100g tin comes in a giant really long flake, similar to 100g Rattray's Marlin Flake. Can anybody confirm this? Anybody notice any differences between the 50g and 100g tins? Thanks. |

Re: Orlik Golden Sliced 50g VS 100g tins
I'm just finishing up a tin of Golden Slices, its a VA not a VaPer (no, or not as much Perique) like Escudo is, ergo apples and oranges et al.
Its not bad, I sat on that tin for almost a year - but I think it will shine after 3+ years. Oh yes, it was 50gm tin with the large flakes, no idea what the big brother contains but if its anything like Reiners LGF (which IS a Perique blend similar to Escudo) - it may have the large coiled snake of a flake within.

Re: Orlik Golden Sliced 50g VS 100g tins
The 100g tins are packaged like 12" flakes grabbed in a stack, folded over itself four times at about a 45* angle and stuffed in the tin.

Re: Orlik Golden Sliced 50g VS 100g tins
I just got an order in today, consisting of a few Orlik 50 gram tins, and one 100 gram tin....and some other stuff.
The 100 gram tin is pretty giant and bulky....and of the circular kind. It has the white frilly inside packaging, and a big image of the "shrewd judge" inside, protecting the tobacco. There's maybe 10 big flakes (about 8"x1.5"), and they just sort of twist it and cram it into the tin. The 50g tin is totally different. IMHO, the packaging and presentation of the 50g tin is absolute perfection. The 50g tin also has a nice inner gold paper with a little sticker of the judge, instead of the white frilly stuff...everything looks really slick and sharp. I guess the 100g tin is a little cheaper in the long run, but the presentation of the 50g tin really does something for me, and adds to the experience. I'm going to stick with the 50g tins from now on. |
