Reading the thread title I though it was about this........





I know nothing about pipes and nothing about wood working. The wood working is something I would really like to get in to someday. Beautiful work I'll be interested in watching it progress.

Here are the rest of the photos in this project. The first photo is a pic of another pipe I was starting on but the stem lying next to it is the one I used on this pipe, just to show what (I hope) a worst case scenario of a premolded stem looks like.

Learning as we go Dan. No point tossing a piece of briar when I know just around the next corner I could totally screw something up. Fix whatever isn't going to take forever and accept what will. I'm getting my time, my precision up and messing around with shapes and finishes. Now's the time to buy!!! I was really curious about the stems at the outset but while being a more rigid vulcanite, they don't seem to oxidize easily. On my two week break from school I worked on setting up a work area in my shed which is much better than leaving tools in the kitchen and doing most of the work on the front step or back deck. If I ever get the lathe going I might try my hand at hand-cutting my own stems
