Dates on tinned tobacco??
I received an order of a few tins of tobacco today. On one of the tins, Haddo's Delight, there is a number that appears to be a date on the bottom. I am wondering if in fact this is a date or not. Can someone please shed some light on this?

Re: Dates on tinned tobacco??
I know that on McClelland's the last two numbers are the year it was produced, but I don't know about GL Pease. I think on McClelland the first two are the blend code and the middle two a lot or batch number of something.

Maybe a serial number for the lot?

Hard to tell from the picture if it's 06 or 08,
but that is a date stamp. |

Re: Dates on tinned tobacco??
GLP tins have MonthDateYear two digits each. Thats a Nov 06 or 08 the photo is fuzzy.
Note that from early '09, GLP uses little stickers such as the price gun labels in your corner store. These are clearer to read but do fall off more easily (resulting in NO date codes).

yep. GLP and C&D do a 6 digit date on when it was tinned. just wish they wouldn't smudge them all the time.

Re: Dates on tinned tobacco??
aye, in person it is a clear 06. This is why I was a little surprised; i ordered the tobacco last week and didnt think id be getting a three year old batch... Is this normal, or is this retailer trying to get me to place more orders?

Re: Dates on tinned tobacco??
normal, depending on the blend.
you can sometimes walk into a B&M and find tobacco from as late as '03 or older...

The tin of Black Woods Flake I'm working on right now, which arrived from the seller in late August is from 2005.

Re: Dates on tinned tobacco??
"Most" blends improve with age, and improve dramatically with dramatic age. VAs need a minimum of 6 months to get the edge off, 1.5 year to start to settle, 3+ years is great. Perique and burley blends also improve. Aromatics usually do not (they fade) and latakia continues to reek.
