Leather pouches

Has anyoned ever noticed their tobacco dries too much in a leather pouch?

I have a couple of them and the seal pretty good. Still I think the baccy dries in there too quickly.

Any thoughts?

Re: Leather pouches

Yeah, I found that out many years ago. I like to keep my tobacco in air tight, (or as close as I can get it), containers.

Re: Leather pouches

They seem to do alright for a few days. But I wouldn't go past a week with one.

Re: Leather pouches

I haven't gotten around to picking up a pouch yet in this turn at pipe smoking, but back when I had one, I never left the tobacco in them anyways; I'd return it to it's original container when I got back home. I never considered using them for storage, just as a portable container when I was going to be gone from the house long enough to want to have a couple of bowls along.

Same as he said; I think the pouch things are good for the day.

Seems like everyones Grandpa used to stick slice of apple in a pouch with their tobak. A thin slice keeps a folded pouch nice for a week and doesn't mold if you want to mess with that.

Re: Leather pouches

I did some looking into pouches in the early days (oh, ye olde days).

Latex lined pouches keep baccy moister, longer. Plastic (vinyl) do not, and they may add a vinyl-ly odor.

Double fold-over pouches WITH latex lining are pretty good and airtight. Latex on latex, over and over, whatever, it works.

Double fold pouches with PLASTIC are a cheap alternative, I have one and moistness in the baccy lasts reasonably long. The double fold is apparently the key.

Both latex and vinyl "ghost", especially with strong aromas (aeros).

Ziplocks (genuine ones, that is) are by far the best tobaccy carrier. Everything proof but bulletproof. Use once and toss, cheep cheep.

Re: Leather pouches

No offence to anybody who swears by pouches, but I've just given up on them....no matter what I do with the pouch, whenever I place a blend in it for more than 1 hour it tastes of leather when I smoke it. The only time I use one is when I'm in a suit at a posh function and I want to look presentable smoking my pipe, it looks a bit better than taking out a tin or a drugstore pouch. In fact I always keep a few empty MacBaren pouches filed with my favorite blends at hand for out n' about smoking.

I tried leaving it in a zip bag filled with cheap tobacco for six months to get rid of the leather smell, guess what, it still smells of leather!

Hell of a thing being the Mayor... fine dining, silk shirts, the events, soft music, pretty girls serving canapes, the wine, and a freaking leather pouch. Here here.

How's it going Moo, don't worry your time will come, sooner than you think. I remember you did say elected office was for 6 months...how long have I been Mayor? It's been such a party I don't remember anything.

Drinking oolong and eating an Oreo here - life is grand. I think you have six more months to go.
