Re: best TASTING tobaccos

Well my favorite is GL Pease - Fillmore. Creamy, peppery, stewed fruit, and lots of tobacco.

Re: best TASTING tobaccos

My favorite right now is probably Samuel Gawith's Full Virginia Flake. But then I only smoke for taste as the cat really doesn't seem to care which tobacco I smoke.

Actually, that's not true. She prefers the really smoky English stuff, particularly if I blow smoke rings...

Re: best TASTING tobaccos

In my humble opinion to decide on which tobacco is best, we first need to decide what sort of tobacco we like, i.e. Va, Burley or Latakia based, so I would get 3 tins of completely different tobaccos and establish what YOUR taste buds value most.

What he said. Try 'em all, each has a unique flavor which you may, or may not, care for!

Strictly in the area of aromatics, which is the example you gave, I would recommend one that tastes as good as it smells: W.O. Larsen's Old Fashioned. That is if you like maple syrup and toasted caramel. I do.

Re: best TASTING tobaccos

whats better, tins of tobacco like cornell and diehl or the stores stuff? or does it all depend on the store. because im looking at all these tobacco reviews and theres so many out there i cant even decide what to taste, i really dont wanna buy a whole tin of something and not like it.

Most B&Ms (stores) sell re-packaged-re-labeled Lane or McClelland bulk. Almost no one actually "blends" their own baccy. And most have a limited variety. Tins of course can be stored indefinitely (aging), or traded, and of course sent up in smoke.

The noobie pipe trade will get you ten samples to try out, this way you know what tins to invest (whats left of) your 401k into

You need some amount of posts and/or time before you see the WTT/WTS/WTB thingie, and partake the carnival called the noobie pipe trade.

Agreed. I started my pipe-smoking-days by smoking mostly english blends & virginias. Now I primarily smoke VA/Pers, along with some Burleys & VA's.

Re: best TASTING tobaccos

This is my list...here goes:

Long Golden Flake
Escudo
Marlin Flake
Scottish Cake
Scottish Flake
Three Nuns
Old Gowrie
Capstan Medium
Union Square
University Flake
Irish Flake
PS Bullseye
McClleelands Navy Cav
Aged Burley Flake
Exhausted Rooster
Prince Albert
Old Joe Krantz
Barbary Coast
MacB Golden Extra
MacB Mixture
Momoyama

For me these are all winners, not so many Latakia's in there, 1 or 2 aromatics, but that's me.

Re: best TASTING tobaccos

A good smoke that is pleasant to smell and tastes great IMHO is Black Velvet. Easy to find and I find it a great smoke in the morning with my coffee. As with anything, Tastes vary greatly so find what you like.
