The latest addition to my pipe family!
The B&M in Ann Arbor, MI, Maison Edwards played host to two U.S. reps from Savinelli. I had stopped in yesterday bent on buying a new pipe and the owner, Chuck (who has always been great to his customers) asked me if I could be there today for their visit. I met Steven Ysidron, who together with the other rep (whose name escapes me, I'm very sorry!) were absolute gentlemen and consumate salesmen!
We talked about the several Savinellis I already have in my collection: 3 Linea Piu's, a Goliath, a Qandale churchwarden and a Bing's Favorite, together with an older pipe I purchased on consignment, an "Estella". They were great to talk to and knowledgeable about the pipes they had. I believe Steven told me he had been a carver in the Savinelli factory for 14 years, and knew quite a bit about the way they purchase and cure the briar they use for their pipes. I added another Savinelli to my collection today, one of the "Milano Handmade" series. (Unfortunately I'm technology-challenged and don't own a digital camera. . . yet. Christmas is coming, after all!) I'm told that the Milano series are pipes that start out as Autographs, the highest-end pipes Savinelli sells. If there are imperfections like sand pits that show up during the carving process, they're relegated to the Milano series, with a price that is ridiculously low for such a wonderful pipe! I "baptised" this pipe with a bowlful of Ashton Artisan's Blend, and for the first time with any of my Savinelli pipes, left the balsa system in place. Every shred of tobacco smoked to ash, no gurgle or even a hint of wetness! I'm one happy Puffer Fish! If there are any other Savinelli fans out there, please stand up! |

Re: The latest addition to my pipe family!
Funny you posted this today, as I just bought a Clark's Fav Sav at my local shop a couple hours ago. Got a good discount on it, too! The guy who runs our local shop is awesome.
I also have a Sav Duca Carlo's; Sav Sitter;Sav with silver band;Sav lolo which I bought two of and gave one away because I never smoked it; and I think there is one more, but the name escapes me at the moment. Sav's are excellent pipes, and most of my collection is comprised of those or cheaper, estate pipes. Peterson's are great as well, but I only have two to date, because on average, Sav's tend to be cheaper.

@mb:
I knew about this on Tuesday and didn't post anything here. That's a mistake I won't make again, I can tell you!@rrb: I don't own a decent camera, hence my comment about Christmas coming soon! I hope to get a nice digital camera and start posting pics here as well as on other forums and blogs. |
