Classic old time blends still around?

I've been looking into this but not much found....can people list any classic blend that your grandad might have smoked and that are still available.

St. Bruno
Condor
Three Nuns
Mick Mc Quaid
Erinmore

These for sure would be British Isles classics....

Heres a link that might get you thinking:

Re: Classic old time blends still around?

Presbyterian Mixture is the one I remember from my first venture into pipes way back when. I must confess I still haven't tried it, though.

This one is on my to try list for sure. Here's a link to a major online UK shop, it's amazing to see so many old time blends on their shelves.

Re: Classic old time blends still around?

I don't think my grandfather ever smoked a pipe, but his Brother, my great Uncle, did. They were all born sometime in the 40's, though, so what they would of smoked would be the same old same old that their grandfathers might of smoked.

I know my Great Grandfather used to smoke a pipe, when he was younger, but gave it up, because I was around him occasionally when I was younger and he never smoked a pipe, so I don't know what he smoked.

I hear that those who smoked a pipe in my family, enjoyed Middleton's Apple tobacco.

My mom's Uncle smokes a pipe(and recently nearly cleared out my whole cellar because he smokes all day, out the same pipe, and don't care what is in it.) but he was more into Bokum Riff Whiskey, which I don't think has been around that long.

Then there is the normal drug store blends that have been around:

Granger
Charter Hall
5 Brothers
Sir Walter Religh(sp?)
Walnut
Velvet

Those have all been around for decades. Hopefully this helped a bit, other than my rambling on about my family. lol

I bought 2 tins of this a while back just because it got good reviews, I didn't even realize it was an old fashioned mixture.

Now I need to try it soon.

P.S. is the new 3 nuns at all similar to the original?

A much discussed topic, they say it's no where as good, but everybody always says that....I still rate it.

Some of mixtures have been around for a long time, while others have been "resurrected."

Re: Classic old time blends still around?

I remember my uncle smoking Clan, which I find hateful.

And my father used to have something with a 79. It was a white can.

I thought Barking Dog was gone. And if by Balkin Sopranie you mean Balkan Sobranie, I'm sure it's gone.

You are right! But they are still around on shelves in B and M's and on eBay. Some can be had on PipeStuds site right now.
