Re: mac baren containers
Some may disagree with me, but I never keep tobacco in any type of plastic. Best thing to use would be a mason jar.
Many people say that the plastic containers are fine, but I've personally found that a. The plastic imparts a taste to the tobacco, if only slight. b. Plastic does not seal 100%. Over time, are WILL leak in. Hope that helps. WWhermit ![]()

Re: mac baren containers
LOL, just saw that I spelled air as "are."
Well, you get the point, I hope. I wanted to add that if I'm going out for the day, and want to take a pipe with me, I have no problem putting enough tobacco into a ziploc baggie to last me for the day. Much beyond that, however, I'll use mason jars. I have small 1/2 pint masons for tobaccos that I'll keep my "daily" tobaccos. I don't mind opening these up frequently. I'll usually hold about 2 ounces in each of them, and I have as many as 10 different tobaccos in seperate jars at one time. The rest are sealed for long term storage. WWhermit ![]()

Re: mac baren containers
I have some glass mason jars and "bale lid" jars, but I also have jars and containers that are food-grade plastic.
Will these really impart a flavor to the baccy? |

I've got little film containers I use when on the road and if I forget to empty them out all the way I can tell the difference after a few days. I think I asked a question here a few days or so ago about possible contaminants from the film. So long as I use it all or take it all out when I get home I can't tell any difference. But forget and leave it in the truck or van a few days and BLEH. |

Re: mac baren containers
Only slightly off-topic has anybody forked over the cash for one of Mac Baren's Limited Edition blends that come in the ceramic jars? I'm a sucker for such jars and have considered evoking the spousal wrath by purchasing one.
I tend to put everything in canning jars as soon as I open a tin. When I buy one of my staples in bulk I will immediately transfer it to a large canning jar, wrapping the jar in paper and labeling it with the blend and purchase date. I don't suggest reusing the lids, however, as I find they retain the smell of the tobacco even after a good wash. |

Re: mac baren containers
wash the lids/jars in soapy water, then wipe down w/rubbing alcohol. really helps to eliminate any of that flavor carryover.

Re: mac baren containers
should be fine for a year or two. The company recommends less than a year. Long term...mason is the way to go.
