I see tons of pipes like these for stupid cheap prices. Are they worth a try? Or would you shy away from them & why?

I got a couple of those. Think of them as very cheap cobs. Plan on using them a few times and then tossing them.

These would be much more expensive and elaborate cobs that appeals to a broader aesthetic reach.

My rule is any pipe made in China, stay away!!!
Get some Missouri Meerschaum corn cob pipes instead.

Call me xenophobic, but I can't see sending any more money to China than we have to. Plus, the 'quality' concerns Drastic Quench brings up are there. I'll pass. If you really want cheap pipes on eBay, grab a lot of Dr. Grabows and such.

I was just thinking the same thing. After all lets face it, Chinese products have had a bad reputation lately. Especially lead contaminants. Who knows what you would be burning once you light up??

I purchased a new pipe on ebay a couple of months ago, better sense said I should have stayed well clear, however it was exceptional and unique and unsmoked so I bit the champ. What really clinched it was it had the 'C' logo from Comoy on the stem.

The end result is I purchased an amazing piece of woodwork that is completely unsmokeable with a Comoy logo on it put there by a very clever businessman who understands exactly what he is doing and needs to do in order to attract western saavy pipe smokers to an inferior product he is making.

He sucked me and I suspected I was being suckered, but he got his $2 dollars for the pipe (before retail margins added). In the end I actually admire these factory managers, they can teach us all a lesson. I still look at this unsmokeable veneer pipe and I am amazed at the craftsmanship involved.

No offence to your ego but you're so wrong in this statement and off mark it's hilarious. Cobs I suspect will be around for at least another 20-30 years after that is too far to speculate.

Naw, dont try one of those cheapo knock off pipes, Ive practicing restoring some old medicos and what not and just got a Savinelli for like 15 bucks, it gonna take some work but ive been practicing and think I can make it shine again, definatatly a better investment than a cheap unsmokable mess.

The way i see it, If your gonna get a cheap wood pipe spend a few more bux and get a grabow or a yello bole.... for all you know those chinese pipes are made from the bones of enemies of the state....
