Are Prices Going Up?

Early this year I purchased a Peterson River Collection (Boyne - I believe) for about $110.00. A few months ago found the same pipe at the same online store for $160.00. Yesterday it was listed for $264.00. Just curious has anyone else noticed this.

I don't know if it's the same pipe, but PipesandCigars.com lists a Peterson River Collection Boyne at $101.59 (showing a list price of $127), which sounds like what you paid.

I've noticed about a 20 - 25% increase in some pipes but the price on that Pete sounds rediculous. I know the river series were pretty popular with some guys and they might have been a limited release. What website had the one you were looking at?

Prices, as a generalized whole, are going up. Higher shipping costs, higher taxes, manufacturers who are trying to repair their 401k's, etc. Naturally, our little hobby also is seeing some inflation. Overall however, its not as bad as it could be (or could get). IMHO pipes are almost the same in cost (midrange and higher end) as a year/two years ago. Baccy, of course, went up thanks to that fiendish SCHIP scam.

Lets just cross our widdle piddies and hope the economy stabilizes and our toys get cheaper again (or, at least don't get more pricey).

This is what I found - perhaps I was incorrect I believe it is $160.00

Thought some of you might find this interesting, at least as far as how new taxes, etc. might effect pricing. It's from Chris Tarler:

As for some of the new FDA Tobacco Control Act laws that are on the nation’s books now, Tarler says most of the people he talked to at RTDA are not that worried.

“The impression I got from pipe and cigar people, like Castello, Peterson, Fuentes, Comancho, is that the FDA law really isn’t making the retailers run scared, but is scaring the consumer,” Tarler says.

“If nothing else weird happens, most feel the industry should be fine. That is the prevailing view. It is a good positive,” he says.

We should be thankful. I had to buy printer paper at Wallyworld last night. The price has quadrupled in the last two years. Who'da thunk it?

Tobacco price have taken a 10% increase here and that's apart from taxes, equally I do see about the same increase on online stores for their pipes. However. Prices on ebay are a good 20% down on average I'd say, less aggressive bidding too, my latest purchase was a bargain, a unsmoked Peterson deluxe for $77!
