Cigarette Punks

Now I know that I'm still but a spring chicken myself but it seems that the kids hanging round smoking cigarettes are getting younger and younger.

I was out and about this morning having a nice short sweet smoke out of my mini corn cob, pipe and a walk is a great start to a day I think, and there were a few little oiks on a park bench smoking there marlboro shite sticks or whatever they were and one of them said and I quote 'Pipes are for pussys *squeaky pre-pubescent laugh*' I was tempted to stop and beat him to the ground for that statement but I realised not only would that be stooping to his level but also beating up a young kid for the sake of my pride. Not very macho.

SO, my point a long convoluted manner is have any of you guys/girls had similar incidents, I mean I have had similiarish things happen amongst my friends but this was the most recent.

Just checking to see I'm not the only one.

This is why you should smoke a VERY LARGE pipe when around tykes like that. If the size of it doesn't scare them off or at least shut them up, you can always brain them with it!

Re: Cigarette Punks

Now thats a plan. Time for a large Ardor or Mario Grandi or perhaps I might make a crappy pipe outta blocks of wood thats pretty big and got some weight to it so I can club him/them with it.

'Pipes are for pus....*thump*'

I'm assuming you've had a similar experience then Organist because solid advice like that suggests practice

Re: Cigarette Punks

I think the younger pipe smokers have a harder time finding acceptance from others. It may viewed as an affectation and not something that the person truly finds enjoyable. Being a new pipe smoker lends towards slight nervousness too, as they (and thier friends and family) question the new "looks" of the person with a pipe hanging from their mouth.

That being said, I smoke a pipe to relax and enjoy myself. Becoming confrontational with another person would ceratinly kill that notion. Breaking the mold of another person's pre-concieved view of how you should look and act is hard to do.

When my family gave me the initial thought provoking questions ("What the hell is that? Whatcha got in that pipe, bro?") I just let it slide. I'm doing something I want to do.

Hang in there, and do what you like! You've got our support here.

Re: Cigarette Punks

They're kids, and probably just wanting the world to take notice of them. It doesn't really matter what they have to say. Refuse to be insulted and turn the conversation around on them

Thank You and I get what your saying, my mates were a bit wary at first and one even stopped talking to me because I smoke. They soon came around, i put it down to the pipes natural aromas and charm that and my warm personality

So from now on it will be water of a ducks back and I will just ignore them as they draw on their cancer sticks stolen from their parents and will just puff along on my merry way.

Re: Cigarette Punks

I was reading a recent article in support of the "Attractive to Kids" prohibitions. It quoted a statistic that said that between 65% and 75% (I can not recall the exact number) of people who smoke cigarettes start before the age of 18. I know I bought my first pack of smokes at age 14.
Cigarettes are attractive to younger people in general because there is no effort in preparation, time commitments or any of the other rituals involved in smoking something worthwhile. Instant gratification. Let alone the misguided feeling of rebellion associated with cigarette smoking at a young age.
Don't waste your energy on these kids, as that is all they are. Their words were to impress their peers and nothing more. Enjoy your pipe for yourself, as it is not gratifying to anyone else.

Re: Cigarette Punks

Yeah it did seem that way both with the lil' horrors today and my friends a while ago but now they have got used to it they seem alright with me and my pipe. Suppose because they no longer have to impress the guys/girls around them.

I know that it won't happen overnight but i feel that a pipe revolution is needed at my age range so that they can see that smoking can be a respectful and enjoyable past-time rather than just a way to act cool and feed an addiction formed because it was the cool thing to do.

Re: Cigarette Punks

I haven't had problems from them or with them, but I know many of their parents who have, and I imagine others as well.

I generally travel all the time for business, so very rarely am I anywhere public due to rotary-craft and other such transportation. But when I am, it really is insulting to see the societal decline of today's generation.

I got exactly the same comment once! I was tempted to say "Keep smoking those cigarettes; it'll help get rid of that girly voice you have" but instead I said "You're right. I'm not man enough to face emphysema. You go ahead".

Another time I got, from a cigarette smoking late teen, that pipes for for old geezers. I responded "That's because cigarette smokers don't live long enough to be old geezers".

I can sympathize with you. A lot of young people have no respect, and think they are all that.
One thing I do , when I am walking in a park, and passing by some young folks, or some young punks, and they start to say crap to me(they feel very brave in a crowd) is to stop in my tracks, look them in the eye, and sort of pretend like i am looking for something in my pocket.
Their eyes are always on me, and I make sure my holster and gun are exposed for a split second(by mistake). It makes them very quiet real fast.
And if I am also carrying one on my ankle, I bend down to "tie my boots" and they see another piece.
Sometimes, they say"what are you a cop"if they got some balls. I just look at them and give them an evil grin. I then start walking and pull out a cell phone, and pretend I am looking at them and making a call. 99 percent of a time, the crowd dissapates within a half minute. Probably, they are playing hooky, or carrying illegal substance, have existing warrants out, or who knows. But it is surprising how these "toughies) turn into corn cakes very quickly.
What i am trying to do, is to teach them, to beware on who they try to pick on with their hordes. They can become the victim.......
These young people seem to hate anyone past 40 and anyone with authority.

Much regards Jerry

So, setting the little bastards on fire is not acceptable? Is that what you guys are implying? I just want to be clear on this.
