Favorite "Drug Store Brands" ??

Just smoked some Carter Hall in a cob for the first time and I have to say I liked it. Some people look down on these brands. Am I wrong in liking it or am I too much of a newb to know better??
What are some of your favorite drug store blends

Carter Hall is a good one...Smoke what you like..in what you like, nothing wrong with OTC blends or any tobacco you have a taste for.

There is a reason some of these tobaccos are so prevalent. Their good. Not all, but some of them are rather enjoyable even though you can get them at the corner store.

Not that I am going to stop smoking other tobaccos that are not so nearly available locally. I pretty much smoke whatever strikes me at the moment. Captain Black is not too bad either.

I've discovered I like baked (in an oven) Granger Rough Cut. Yep, you read that right. Baked in an oven and then stored for a month or so - the more the merrier. I cook it at 220 degrees for an hour and it tones down the flavoring while stoving the tobacco a bit. I doubt this would do much to tobacco you don't like fresh from the can but it does impart a subtle but significant improvement in the Granger.

And Mikey - so what if people look down on Carter Hall? If you like it, it's good tobacco. Frankly, I'd rather smoke Granger than some of the more expensive tinned tobaccos I come across.

Interesing question. I smoke Carter Hall once and a while and Prince Albert everyday. I also smoke Sugar Barrel everyday. Although that is really no longer a drug store blend.

I smoke a wide variety of blends. Carter Hall is my favorite drug store blend though. I could smoke it all day & not get sick of it.

Carter Hall jumps out as the brand I prefer. I always keep a couple of puches or a tub around. I cheerfully launch on a CH bender every so often and then, suddenly, it goes horribly boring. I put it away until next time the urge strikes. It's probably based on a lunar schedule and is hard to anticipate without a stonehenge in the yard.

I've been a Prince Albert fan for, well, more than 30 years shall we say. I can smoke some Carter Hall now and then and even some Kentucky Club. I tried Velvet in the distant past and did not care all that much for it. I've tried hard to like SWR but I just can't bring myself to smoke more than one bowl before putting it away.

It's all a matter of personal taste. Smoke what you like.

I am ashamed to say I am just now smoking my first bowl of Prince Albert, when I first picked up the pipe a couple years ago I had maybe 5-6 bowls of Captain Black (blue pouch) and maybe 3 bowls of CH but that is really the extent of my OTC blends, I am really lovin' this PA and am gonna go on the hunt for some Ch later this afternoon.

I enjoy most any so called "Drug Store Blends" from time to time, they all have their place. However, as favorites, mine are Walnut, Carter Hall and Prince Albert.

If you like PA or CH you've got it made - cheap and available at every drugstore in the nation. Who cares what anyone else thinks? Enjoy it and enjoy it's easy availability - it's truly and old classic!!

I agree Prince Albert is a great blend and easy to get, you can buy it at Wal-Mart for goodness sakes, I havent tried any others but when my current supply runs out Im gonna get a few different brands.
