Warning for a Piper... There is danger ahead

Was at smokingpipes.com's store today and decided that I would send my first pipe related bomb. I don't know anything about pipe tobacco but I picked up the lucky recipient a 100 gram tin of 2009 Christmas Cheer and a 2 oz. tin of the shops own blend called the Cooper blend.

All I know about the Cooper blend is that it says it is a mix of Orientals and Cyprian Latakia with a base of Bright Leaf and Red Virginias. Do you think this blend is a good choice for you serious pipers? If not then I will pick them up a tin of something else.

Now I just have to figure out which one off you I want to hit with it!

For a lover of English blends, it sounds quite tempting! Sounds like something I would pick up for myself.

Re: Warning for a Piper... There is danger ahead

Anyone here ever tried any of smokingpipes house blends?

I know that the Christmas Cheer seems to be pretty popular.

BTW I have been thinking about trying the pipe but after looking at that slope today (pipes upward of $1,000) I think I may hold off on that a little while.

Lol get a cob then.

By house blends do you mean "low country"? If so I've had waccamaw before, pretty decent.

Never tried either but sounds good enough. Something named "Christmas cheer" sounds good just from the title (but they say don't judge a book by its cover) and in my experience, I have never had a bad house blend (although I have only had about 3 so I guess that's not saying much either)

Yes Jeff, it is one of the "Lowcountry" blends.

I did see a pipe that had a beautiful finish on it and it was only $74.00. I have been lurking here in the pipe forum for a little while and trying to learn a little bit before I take the plunge. Biggest problem I have is that the cigars keep taking all of my money!

I have a tin of Cooper I haven't tried yet.
Waccamaw is a good VA/Per.
I'm pretty sure every VA lover likes Christmas Cheer,
I'll be opening some CC '03 as soon as Egg Nog hits the shelves.

Check out ebay, they have really good deals on estate pipes, I've picked up nice pipes for less than $15 after shipping.

I may check that out.

BTW Would I need to start buying coolers to store my pipe tobacco in?

I think you would be fine with just a couple of mason jars, but then again you probably want to ask someone with a bit more experience. (sorry for the random smiley...I just had a real urge to actually use that one)

If ya don't go nuts buying pipes (yeah right),
you'll save a fortune smoking pipe tobacco over cigars.

That's one of the beauties of pipe tobacco; low maintenance.
Just put sealed tins/jars in a dark place and forget about em.
No coolers, no hygrometers, no beetles, leave em for years without
even checking on em, and never a plugged smoke.
