Question about MacBarens Plumcake

Hey gang,

I have been reading and watching reviews about Plumcake Navy Cut. It has my interest due to the fact it has been aged in rum. I love rum, it is my favorite drink. I am new to smoking a pipe, so I have come to the conclusion that this blend is probably not for me. Does anyone have any suggestions for a blend with a hint of rum in it. I do not like strong aromatics, I prefer tobacco with lots of flavor. I enjoy a lot of english blends.

McB Navy Flake - I've sampled this one personally. Mild rum taste. Very nice, didn't bite in my case (others differ on this).

McC Navy Cavendish - Never tried but it's been recommended to me.

C&D Blockade Runner - Never tried this one but its a crumble cake if you want to try something different.

Lots of rum infused blends out there. Look for blends called Navy something or other. These often have rum casings.

Re: Question about MacBarens Plumcake

The Navy Cav Indigo mentions is one of my Top 5 tobaccos. It's aged in old rum barrels, so the rum flavoring is caused by the tobacco "breathing" in the rum fumes, rather than it being actually soaked in rum. The result is a dark straight virginia broken flake with a robust flavor, rather than an actual rum taste. In other words, the rum just brings out a heavier tobacco flavor. Highly recommended overall, but perhaps not if you're looking for a rum taste.

Thanks for the clarification... and for the sample of McB Navy Flake! I've got to try both Navy Cavendish and Blockade Runner...so much tobacco, so little time.
