Meer lined Briars? Cheap Pipes?

So I've seen some meerschaum lined briars on ebay... anyone have one>? What brand is yours?... I've seen no names and briarcraft brands on ebay for very cheap I wonder if they smoke well. How does yours smoke, is it cool or hot? Did you buy it estate or new, how much was it?

I don't really want to get a real meer pipe because I am still new and don't want to deal with the problems that arise when you puff to fast on a meer. Plus I can find these very cheap on ebay from what I've seen.

Also, I have a second question... can anyone give me the name of a cheap pipe that smokes average to good, such as Dr. grabows, kaywoodies, medicos. I keep hearing that on occasion out of these mass produced pipes you;'ll get a good smoker. Anyone have or ever experienced one of these?

Thanks in advance I know I had alot of questions

Re: Meer lined Briars? Cheap Pipes?

I have two meer lined briars. They smoke alright I guess but both are small pipes made in Tanganyika I think. I've heard that the meer linings are made from reconstituted meerschaum. I wouldn't recommend against them but they do seem to hold moisture unlike a briar or a meer

I've read about them on pipes.org's forums and the consensus seemed to be that too often you get the worst of both worlds instead of the best. I was interested in one to go backpacking with, but I think I'd sooner buy a Lepeltier clay.

Ok so the consensus is they aren't to great, didn't expect them to be or more people would mention them on this forum I guess.

Yuck don't like the sound of them holding moisture hmmm.

Yee a clay pipe would be right up my alley i'm just afraid of it getting to hot is that a problem? The price range on the Lepeltier start at around 40 right?
