Experience with MacBaren's Plumcake

Amazing!!!!

I love this stuff. I bought it on last Friday and it was too wet. So I let it sit in the tin until today. I pulled out a couple bowls and let them sit out for 1 hour. The smoke was awesome, lots of flavor. I could taste the rum in it. It was sweet and tasty. I took it slow and no tongue bite.

I've been curious about this one for some time now but never got around to trying it. Mainly because MacB has to make such large tins and you better make sure you like it before buying that 100 gram whopper of a container.

I agree Mitch, it is a tasty smoke. MacB blends get a lot of flack for being biters, but I've enjoyed just about all of their blends without any trouble...guess I'm a slow sipper.

I'm with you. I remember a while ago when i was incredibly new to smoking, all the MacBaren flavors and descriptions appealed to me but i heard so much about their bite. But once i started trying all them, i didn't really notice it. In fact, of the 3-5 i've tried i think i've pretty much been impressed with each one. I might actually consider them to be my favorite blender

I used to really love this blend but these days its hard to taste anything beyond the Syrian. Still, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to someone.

I noticed I need to smoke it really slow, and it will taste amazing. Be careful if your a cigar smoker... I had my sister-in-law try it also, she said it was great. How do MacBarens other blends compare. Are they as sweet. I like rum, so this is why I enjoy Plumcake.

The ones I've tried are generally sweet. We have a reviews section. Just click pipe forums then Pipe Related Reviews and then use the search button and search "MacBaren"

Re: Experience with MacBaren's Plumcake

If you like the current version of the Plumcake....try and find the old style without the latakia in it. Totally different, but just as amazing.

I happen to be a bit of a puffer and not as much of a sipper, so I almost NEED to smoke mine in a really big bent pipe to keep it cool.

Also, if you like the PC, give the Dark Twist a try. Dang, I haven't had it in over a year, and I am drooling thinking about it!

The Plumcake has latakia, I didn't pick that up. Interesting.

Re: Experience with MacBaren's Plumcake

I think nearly all MacB blends have that particular taste to them. I can't really describe it (and it's not bite :P), but it's definitely specific to MacB. Either way, i love finding "their note" amongst the range of flavors they offer, it's probably my favorite blender so far.

I don't smoke so much of it these days, still have a tin in the cellar, but it's good stuff, I always give it a little english to give it a bump, works wonders.

Plumcake has become my go-to navy blend. I don't reach for it often, but it always hits the spot when I do.
