New Member saying hello and needing expert opinion

Hey everyone im a new member and wanted to introduce myself and say hello.
I also am looking for some help. I recently began smoking cigars about a year ago, unfortunately im a college student and on a penny budget. I have thus decided for economic reasons decided to start pipe smoking! I have found what seem to be good deals on estate briars on eBay, but I have read on here that a novice should start with a corn cob. The local B&M though dont sell any. So my question is should I buy an inexpensive estate? or should I buy a cob; and if the cob, does anyone know of any websites that sell brand new cob pipes? Thank you for what any help you guys can give me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome!

The estate pipes probably need some refurbishing and that costs some money (for tools and cleaning products), time and a little expertise. Go for the corn cob. Someone else will tell you where to get it.

And don't regret... pipes are not a second option from cigars.

As far as cobs go. Try here.

Missouri Meerschaum Company

Country Gentlemen and Great Danes are good inexpensive smokers, IMO.

Try Frenchy for corn cobs, he carries just about all of them. My personal favorite is Country Gentleman. And if you're looking for an estate he has them too and he'll give you a good deal and a clean pipe. Estates are listed under "Other Pipes".

Re: New Member saying hello and needing expert opinion

Thank you so much guys this is very helpful. The Country Gentlemen is looking to be the one to buy. At the same time, does anyone know about the Ozark Cherry/Maple pipe and how they smoke? That one kinda caught my eye also. Also, as a newbie to all this, what kind of aromatics should I try? The ones they got at the B&M? or maybe some other brand?

Re: New Member saying hello and needing expert opinion

I bought one of those cherry pipes just out of curiosity but I'll probably never smoke it, it just feels like a piece of dried kindling and I can just see it going up in flames if I try to light a bowl.
As to what to try, I was at my local B&M talking to the guy there and told him I'd never tried aromatics and didn't know what I might like. He gave me a few samples for free just to try. You might want to give that a shot instead of buying a tin only to find out it's not to your taste. As it turns out, I really liked one of the blends and went back to buy more.

Re: New Member saying hello and needing expert opinion

I tried the cherry pipe, as I bought a five pack from Keep Smilin.com offers missouri meerschaum corncob pipes, and essential oils. that included one. Think of it as a novelty item and pass it by...

Re: New Member saying hello and needing expert opinion

This is my cob recommendation:
Missouri Meerschaum American Series - General - Straight- Brand New

It's got a nice large bowl, so coming from cigars, you'll appreciate the longer smoke. The walls of this cob are thicker too.

I am going to show this thread to a friend of mine who swears by that cherry pipe. He also tells me he thinks ALL tobaccos taste the same to him, but that is pipe can't be the problem.
