? question on pipe smells.

If I got a pipe and went into say a bedroom and smoked a bowl, in general, if someone walked in an hour later would they still smell the smoke.

Let me state this differently, Unlike a cigar, if I smoked ten bowls a week in the same room, would people who walked in a few days later, know theres some type of tobacco being smoked in it?

Re: ? question on pipe smells.

I think it really depends on the room, and the materials in the room. When I smoke in the car with all the windows cracked, it takes on the faintest tobacco smell. Fabrics and such grab the smells more that woods and walls; and with good ventilation you will get far less smell than with no ventilation.

Re: ? question on pipe smells.

In my limited experience, the majority of smell actually comes from the pipes themselves after the smoke clears. This of course assumes the room has some air circulation. My advice is to store your pipes somewhere else, or maybe a cabinet or something. Then again, the Mrs. won't let me smoke inside, so maybe i'm wrong.

Re: ? question on pipe smells.

My Grandpa smoked a pipe everyday, I don't remember his house not smelling like pipe tobacco...wasn't necessarily unpleasant, but it was noticeable.

Re: ? question on pipe smells.

I'm sure they will notice a smell but in my memory of my relatives who smoked a pipe regularly it wasn't the kind of smell that was bad. If left a pleasant tobacco smell that was rich and earthy,,,not like cigars where if you leave the butt in the ashtray you might be shot by the Mrs. Burnt pipe tobacco is a tobacco that is fine and aromatic first of all while cigar tobacco is a full leaf tobacco and has a wrapper. I happen to love both of them but hate cigarettes.

Yes. Most definitely. Anyone who thinks otherwise has been smoking too long...

Re: ? question on pipe smells.

Thanks to all. I supposse pipes are out for me then. I do not intend to smoke a pipe outdoors and I do not want my children to see me smoke anything. That is why I do not smoke for the most part in the yard, and smoke in the subbasement only when I rarely have a friend or two over.

My adult kids see the humidors and ask about them, and I tell them I buy them cheap from a connection and sell them online at a profit. Just a little hobby for me.

I know it sounds strange, but thats the way it is. LOL

Regards Jerry
