Disaster - I dropped my pipe!
Well, I broke my Charatan's Make Supreme tonight and I'm miserable. It broke right where the stem goes into the bowl. I don't suppose there a dang thing I can do about it? I don't know how I would pry out the shaft of the stem still inside the shank of the bowl.
What a shame - such a nice little pipe and a beauty to boot. ![]() |

AMERICAN SMOKING PIPE REPAIR CO.
I've had excellent service from here. Fair prices, quick responses and shipping. Otherwise, you could try drilling it out yourself, but you're still going to need a replacement stem.

Re: Disaster - I dropped my pipe!
Go to a hardware store and ask for a screw extractor. Sometimes called an "easyout". Maybe even try threading a self tapping screw that is very close to the same size as the draft hole in the broken piece. You don't want to go to big for fear of cracking the wood.
After threading the screw in, grab it with some pliers and tug gently. |

Re: Disaster - I dropped my pipe!
If you care about the pipe, don't do anything to it.
Definitely, don't try to extract the tenon. If you do, what are ya gonna do with it anyway? Superglue? Send it off to an expert. I just had a Ser Jacopo break a tenon while removing the stem. I plan to send it to: Precision Smoking Pipe Rejuvenation & Repair |

Re: Disaster - I dropped my pipe!
That is a fine looking pipe, definitely worth saving. If it happened to me I'd turn it over to the professionals to repair.

Re: Disaster - I dropped my pipe!
I had that happen to an old Barling this summer. On a whim I decided to superglue it in order to remove the tenon. I was surprised that worked but it held so well I decided to not even bother replacing the stem.

Re: Disaster - I dropped my pipe!
As others have said I believe that if it is a pipe you really care about send it to a professional. If it was me and I was not to concerned about the pipe I'd try the superglue route. It may look homely but hey form over function right?

Re: Disaster - I dropped my pipe!
That's right. If you want it to look cobbled up and jury rigged and only care about function, then by all means use superglue
![]() ![]() As an afterthought, if that doesn't work just splint it with popsickle sticks and wrap it a couple times with duct tape

Re: Disaster - I dropped my pipe!
I realize I'm a little late to the party here, but I recommend Walker Briar Works (look up walkerbriarworks dot com, I can't post links yet). Saved a $200 pipe for me after it fell onto the sidewalk.

Re: Disaster - I dropped my pipe!
Definitely agree a pro's services are needed here if the pipe is to be salvaged to it's fullest potential. I'd send "as is" and get it done right. Sorry for the temp loss Bro.
