Is it just me, but I find tins more interesting...
I find when I buy a tin I find it more memorable than bulk. The added visual aspect appeals to me more than just a plastic bag.

Same here, presentation is everything, although tobacco is one of the few things I know of that looks good in plastic. Then again, there was a really kinky girl I dated in school .... but I digress.

I'll tell you this much, I'm sure glad that American tobacco companies use those cheapie tins rather than solid ones like Samuel Gawith or MacBarens. I'm a bit of a pack rat, and nothing gets me like a good tin or box. If it wasn't for those junky ones that aren't really worth hanging onto, I'd be knee deep in empties. I was even able to throw an empty FVF tin away the other day, though I had to think about it for a bowl or two first...

It's the nostalgia of them, i'm convinced... with maybe being a little better quality (somehow?). Anyways, it's like a placebo effect.
I'd even argue that pouches taste better than bulk for the same reason, it's all in the presentation and your first impression.

I prefer tins because its pain in the [insert anatomical reference here] to jar bulks. The only time I do that is when a blend don't come in tins - Stonehaven, Stokkebye, etc.
Frankly - I don't look at the tin much, only the date if stamped on its butt. My recycling bin gets filled up fast ![]() Its just conveniently sized storage/usage et al.

I like tins way better than bulk too. There's just something about them, it may be partially nostalgic, but it's also partially the're just really cool looking sometimes. I love SG tins, they look awesome. Plus it seems like bulk 1792 is a different consistency than the tinned version.

Funny. I always miss a tin when it finally empties out; I have no such affection for a worn out wrinkled-ie looking piece of poly-wrap or an empty jar.

Re: Is it just me, but I find tins more interesting...
I did some math as I sat contemplating the pound of SG FVF and the litter or half-pint mason jars and the effort required to deal with them.
Taking this purchase as an example (ignoring shipping costs): 1 lb FVF bulk = $31.49 Thats equivalent to just over 9 tins of 1.75oz (50gm), lets ignore the leftover half ounce and assume one smoked it while sweating over the pot of boiling water while sterilizing the 6 jars. Yes, I managed to get about 3oz jammed into each jar. Add the cost of the 6 jars, I happened to have the half pint wide mouth kind, about $2 each for a "reputable" brand. Thats $12 bucks more. Add the hour or two of boiling water, washing jars, sterilizing, ripping up the 6" flakes so they will fit into said jars, closing, heating again, sealing, labelling. We're at $43.49 now, not including the time, effort and explitive vocabulary utilized thereupon. 9 tins of FVF are (were, when in stock) $6.21 each at that same vendor. Thats $55.89 (forget the shipping). Net savings = $12.40 that works out to 22% savings, on one pound. If only my 401k would do so good (or even exist, at this point). On the flip side; the resultant containers are glass (fragile), bulkier than tins, heavier than tins, and the seal is a wing-n-a-prayer (since I did the sealing). All things considered, I prefer the tins. Unless I have to jar, such as with bulk-only animals, Stokkebye and Stonehaven etc.

Re: Is it just me, but I find tins more interesting...
I use the large jars and can get .5 to .75 lbs per jar. That's about 9 lbs per $10 box of jars. Per lb I could save $15 on MacBarens if the tins are on sale, $15 on Sammy G and even more on some other brands. Even saving $12 a lb that means for every 2 1/2 I buy I'm saving enough $$$ to make that 3 1/2. IMO the jars are so much easier to stack and store and jarring is little to no problem, but if I was using those little jars I might agree with you. As is I try to buy a few tins to go with my bulk. There's no doubt about aging, they look nice and when they're empty I can refill from my bulk jars. LOL

but!!! When my recently purchased 8oz bag that my Stonehaven came in is empty, I assure you, I will be one sad camper. Same goes for many of the Comptons blends (Macedonian, Scottish & Full York) that only come in aluminum bags as well. Its a sad sad day when any yummy tobacco becomes nothing but tiny crumbs and dust.
