Former NYC Mayor Koch On Banning Tobacco
Found this in a editorial by former NYC Mayor Ed Koch:
[the italics and bold type are mine) "The first action taken by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration after Congress gave it the authority to regulate tobacco deserves praise. The action announced by Dr. Margaret A. Hamburg, commissioner of Food and Drugs, will prohibit, according to the Times, “the sale of tobacco products with chocolate, vanilla, clove and other flavorings that lure children and teenagers into smoking.” Regrettably, the new law does not permit the FDA to totally ban cigarettes, cigars, or chewing tobacco. After she studies the industry, I hope Hamburg will find that it is in fact selling a form of poison responsible for a huge portion of this country’s medical bills and an enormous number of deaths directly attributable to smoking. If that is what she finds, Congress should consider whether an outright ban of tobacco products is warranted. We should try to shame Congress into action. Regrettably, it has a high tolerance for shameful conditions." - Ed Koch Stock up my friends!

Re: Former NYC Mayor Koch On Banning Tobacco
Been stocking up like crazy this summer and fall. I expect more bad things to keep coming in the next year or two.

Re: Former NYC Mayor Koch On Banning Tobacco
they will never do an outright ban.
main reason: To many taxes are generated from their sale second reason: We all saw what happened during prohibition |

Re: Former NYC Mayor Koch On Banning Tobacco
Here we have a picture of the smoking man. Note the confidence, the love of nature and the nonchalant attitude with which he approaches life
![]() And here we have a chance encounter (in the woods, on the street or anywhere you can imagine) between the smoking man and his nemesis, the ever whining, sniffling, snuffling, rabid anti-smoking man. "Ahhhhhhh!" The anti-smoking man cries! Put it out! Put it out! Have you no culture? Have you no decency? ![]() "But I only meant to offer you this mushroom in a gesture of friendship" replies the smoking man. "But now you can eat shit asshole....... you and Koch, and Bloomberg, and all of NYC for all I care."

It's getting harder to write on these threads without getting political. All I can say is never trust a politician.

Re: Former NYC Mayor Koch On Banning Tobacco
Notwithstanding the fact that these idiots haven't the brains to make the price of a packet of tea, they also haven't the grapes to impose an outright ban on tobacco, much as these Statist types would love to.
![]() Don't forget that these jerks are supposed to work at our pleasure. We're not supposed to suffer at theirs. When the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November rolls around, get the hell out there and excercise your franchise, and "take out the trash." Send these elitist, utopian, pillow-biting bedwetters packing! And in the meantime, stockpile food and tobacco. In equal amounts. By weight, not by volume. And cigars, too. . . and bourbon while you're at it. |
