I like the UPS guy!

I was just sitting down to watch a Sci-Fi movie and there's a bang on the door. I see the UPS guy walking off. I know I'm not expecting anything and my wife says she isn't either so the plain unmarked box sitting on the steps is a bit of a surprise.

I opened it up and what do I find? Two big bags of tobacco. Once I read the letter that was with it I realized that a company I had emailed about a blend I couldn't find either locally or on the net. Seems that blend is being discontinued but they sent me these to see if I like them. One is QFC Golden Burley and the other is Blenders Gold Golden Burley.

Of course I opened both right away. Both currently have a plastic bag taste that I'll have to get rid of. The BG is VERY moist and needs to be dried out just a bit. Took several relights to get it to smoke well. The QFC was drier and stayed lit for me. I am quite happy with both and intend to purchase some of this in the future.

I've never had a company send me something just for asking a question like that. Considering the large quantity they sent, (1 lb and 12 oz), I'll be smoking on these for a few days. It was a very nice surprise on a boring day.

Re: I like the UPS guy!

yeah, suprises! like when something thats supposed to be a suprise for you wife, and arrive on a day she's not home. then, comes a full week later when she's home, and your not!

screw shipping companies i hate them i have lived in all 4 quadrants of tis city and the ups man always comes promptly at 6:30 at night right in the middle of my meal if he comes at all

i have also watched my ups man "shoot a 3" with some sticks i had ordered right onto my front step

i must say he did have good aim though would've never knew if i hadn't seen it for myself

::endrant::

glad yours was a good experience

Re: I like the UPS guy!

My UPS driver shows up at 9:30 AM like clockwork. Now, since I'm a swingshift worker, and have been for decades, I generally roll out of bed at noon, so it's an early rising when a package from pipesandcigars is showing up. Add to that my 'kid waiting for Christmas' attitude the night before, and it's a very short night. But it's okay; tobacco is involved...

Yeah I love it when the mailman just tosses packages up on my front porch in plain view of the rest of the world. Good thing theres woods across the street from my house cause they scream "TAKE ME!"

Re: I like the UPS guy!

I have been lucky. In thirty years my wife has been living at our home, we have had only tow ups drivers. You can set your watch.
The latest one(only been my man for 15 years now) comes withing 1330 to 1430 hours every day. I always have a snack for him, a fruit, a jucie, a cup of coffee.

I have his cell phone number, and I can call him anytime I want, and he will tell me where he is(I could probably run his route at this point, since I can find him without calling him up, LOL0 so I can pick up my packages early or if Im going to be out.

I treat him very generous for the holidays, but he is well liked by everyone on the route, and everybody knows him, and about him. Very rare these days. He could be retired with over 25 yrs in with ups, but likes his job. His truck says he has never had a motor vehicle accident. Guy like these are a dying breed.

Now I can tell you my horror stories with Fed Ex. I am not sure how they work anymore, but there are like five different fed ex companies, all of whom ahve different drifvers, some work for fed ex, some are independent. Some fed ex, is actually delivered through the united states post office letter carriers.

It its too hot, or too cold, or theres a chance of rain or snow, my packages never get to me. Sometimes they never empty their truck for a few days and it comes late.

With ups, when you track it on line, it almost always shows up on the expected date.
With fed ex, it seems like they use a positive date, and almost 90 percent of the time, they change this date a day or two later, for two days later then originally expected.

I actually will not deal with a vendor in most cases, that will only ship fedex. I will actually request usps before fed ex. Not a big fan of fed ex. And they come at different times all day till around 10 oclock at ninght. I have been sleeping and been woken up by a fedex delivery. Unbelievable. And never the same person twice it seems.

Good luck, Jerry
