An argument from the shopkeeper.

You may not be too far off the mark there. That's why I called and gave them my name as soon as I found out.

Re: Peterson University Flake?

The B&M in Ann Arbor keeps one tin of each of the various blends they sell open as a "sampler". They're not always careful to label the one that's open.

In the spirit of fair play, and for the benefit of the doubt, could it be that the place you bought your tin does the same thing, and you inadvertently picked up an open tin?

Anyways, I hope the shop keeper is honest and fair, and you get a proper tin.

And when you do, report back what it is like. I'm curious about University Flake - it's on my list of tobaccos to try.

All turned out well, no questions asked. I'm smoking a bowl right now...more news when I'm done. Right now all I can say is it will be in my regular rotation. Yummy!

Re: Peterson University Flake?

I had the same problem once, the guy in the shop checked the tins on the shelf and quite a few had no seal, he gave me one that was tight...so beware, this I suspect, is part of a batch problem.

Seal is one thing but when the actual sticker on the inside has been broken/cut...either way.

Re: Peterson University Flake?

On blends like this where they are lightly cased, do they need to be separated to a different briar like a true aromatic or are they light enough that it doesn't matter if it's just every once in a while?

Re: Peterson University Flake?

Quite honestly, I've been using one pipe for my VA/VAper blends with little to no noticeable ghosting or anything unpleasant.

I've been smoking...

Irish Flake
Escudo
MB Navy Flake
PS Lux Flake
University Flake (of course)

IMHO this one (UF) qualifies as an "aromatic" albeit a light aero, smoking it in an aero dedicated pipe is recommended. It might soil a VA dedicated pipe, VAs flavors are usually subtle and get mangled by unnatural topping ghosts.

Perique is perique, smoking any selection of VaPers in a perique dedicated pipe will result in pretty much the same ghost (unless other things are in a blend).
