Before Buying A Pipe Online

Do you go to a B&M to check it out? I ordered a Stanwell Featherweight online and was suprised at how small it was. Nice pipe but a bit small for my big gorilla mitts. Do you just take a chance and order?

Re: Before Buying A Pipe Online

ive been buying mine on ebay. I usually do some quick research before bidding. Check for when it was made and try to find some prices.

Several e-tailers (pipesandcigars.com and cupojoes come to mind) have a measurement grid thingie behind their pipes that'll give you a good idea of the size of the pipes. That's worked for me so far.

Yep. That's what I do. Sometimes I even use a my ruler to visualize the size of the briar.

I always get the ruler out, featherweight basically means extra small...I love em.

No, I don't. But I do look for the same pipe at Smokingpipes.com to get the dimensions. Matter of fact quite a few of my pipes came from there. How did I learn this neat approach you ask? Because I paid $85 dollars for a puny little 4" Golden Danish with a bowl the size of an MM Ponyexpress

Re: Before Buying A Pipe Online

I'm with the Mayor - have two little Stanzers and like them both very much. Mostly you can send back what you don't like from online pipe retailers so there's that.

If a seller doesn't post dimensions you can ask if interested. And now you have a gauge on what a smaller pipe is like.
