I packed a bowl of Three Friars. Lit it with a good char, gave it a light tamp and got about a third of the way down before it went out. I set it aside for a few minutes.

I put a match to it again and after a few puffs was rewarded with a mini fireworks display. Luckily I was wearing a ratty old t-shirt, now with a spattering of burns.

I finished the bowl with one more relight and no more problems.

What causes this?

moisture? wood will pop and spit when its wet.

I remember something like a tiny little stick in the tobacco when I laid it out to dry. Had it set out for 2 hours before I packed it. It didn't look like tobacco but I assumed it was supposed to be there.

Probably should of pulled it out.

I knew a guy from NC that had a seed pop on him and stuck to his eyeball!!!! Right on the pupil.....he was at work when it happend. He actually got workmans comp out of it. Said he had a cherry from the torch hit him!! LMAO He got fired shortly after.
