I akin pipe collecting to dating. You have to invest a little time and money, try out several pipes, ok a lot of time in order to find the "ONE" that works for you.

Ok, there is no such thing as the "ONE". But there are so many different features, brands and shapes that make it all worth while.

It's the chase that makes it fun.

If you're starting on pipe smoking, try not to buy ALL the pipes in the first few weeks... you still don´t know what shapes and brands work best for you and you'll have too many pipes to break in. Buy them slowly, so that you can treat your PAD along the way.

That there is good advice. I've developed my taste in pipes over a period of about a year. And I'm always surprised there are more that I like.

So I managed to keep myself from buying that HCA by buying three other pipes for a total of 40 buck cheaper than the HCA

... although I am positive that thing will sit in my collection at some point.

Pipes are like Lay's potato chips, Doritos, french fries (especially McD's), smoked almonds, peel 'n' eat shrimp . . . you simply can't stop at one.

I usually go in fits . . . I'll buy pipes then stop for a period of time, then start "jonesing" for another new one. Right now there's a Charatan at the local B&M that I'm really itching to buy, and they've offered me a really great standing offer on a good price for it. OTOH I'm seeing some great pipes for much less on auction over at ebay. What'll I DO?!?!
