Special Blend no. 1 & Special Blend no. 2

Are these "common" blends found around the country or was this more likely a local blend at the local tobacconist when I smoked back in 1985? Special Blend No. 2 was my Uncle's tobacco and my own.

Now that I've been reunited with my pipe the two tobacconists that I visited last week said they've never heard of it; however, you could find it all over Houston 24 years ago.

Anyone know?

Did you buy it in a manufacturer-labeled tin or pouch, or did you buy it in bulk from a tobacco shop? It sounds like a B&M's house blend to me. Do you recall what it tasted like, what it smelled like or any details? If it was a house blend, it's probably still around under another name.

There were Pipe Shops in Houston called The Tinder Box. They're not in the malls that I went to before moving to Austin last year. Guess they went out of business but what a great shop they were back in the mid-80s.

The blend in one of my Uncle's humidors has a mix of very dark and a little light-colored tobacco. Smells very strong of rum, with a hint of cherry or amaretto, and vanilla...maybe?

It was always purchased out of their jars by the ounce or pound. I still have a small humidor full of it and it's even a little moist but has sat in the jar almost 17 years now. Don't guess it would be smokable, would it? I also found some sampler tins of tobacco where the tobacco is sealed in a little pouch but the tins themselves were not sealed, just closed. I don't see any mold or anything on these tobaccos. Are these usable?

TinderBox is a chain of stores, I've been in one in Jersey last year. Nice bunch of folks. They do have such a named blend online:
Tinderbox.com - Cigars, Pipes, Humidors and Smoking Accessories Online
they also have a store locator somewhere thereupon.
