I had my first bowl of pipe tobacco today...

I was in my newfound favorite cigar shop today and I saw that they had some Dunhill Mixture 965 for 3.50 an ounce and I bought it without hesitation. I then purchased a rather crappy, and small, corn cob pipe and smoked a few bowls on the way back home with my Dad.

Even though it was being smoked through a crappy pipe with tons of lighting issues. It was a somewhat enjoyable experience and it just makes me want to buy a MUCH better pipe and smoke a bowl of it again. But I also found a bunch of other tobaccos I will be buying with the new pipe once I have the cash.

In short, I think I like pipe smoking, even though I am slightly hesitant in going further with it.

Now, the flavor of this blend was pretty interesting, it was earthy and very,very spicy on the palate with woody notes. Then there was the kick of the nicotine, WHOA! I did not think Pipe tobacco could do that.

965 is one of the all-time greats by the way. Nice start! Have a ball.

Consider a regular sized cob like a Missouri Meerschaum Legend and a pouch of Carter Hall. This is a lovely "get started" combo, an American classic combo and, for $8.00 and a pipe multi-tool, you are totally in business. Pipes are not cigars but... they are very, very interesting. Very.
