Re: Pipe and beer
I've definitely found that the maltier beers go much better with a pipe. It seems to me that the hoppier beers tend to exaggerate tongue bite and fight with the tobacco flavor. That said, I prefer the malty stuff as well, so its fine with me! Most beers already mentioned are wonderful!
Currently I'm drinking Old Chub Scotch ale and Dark Horse Black Reserve with my nightly pipe. |

Re: Pipe and beer
well i'm happy to find out that i'm not the only one that enjoys the taste of beer and pipe together
![]() it makes the beer taste completely different than beer alone. Perhaps we should put together a list of all the good combinations? ![]() |

Re: Pipe and beer
I'd be really interested in that. I know beer a lot more than I know tobacco, but I'm trying to learn. My tobacco experience is actually very limited, so this might be a good way to expand myself.

Re: Pipe and beer
I was very excited to find a six pack of Guiness in my girlfriend's refrigerator when I got here. Now do I pair it up with an English, Virginia, VaPer, burley, or aromatic?

Re: Pipe and beer
Draught or Extra Stout? That makes a real difference. FOr draught cans/bottles I'd probably go for something like MacB Vanilla Cake, or a nice mellow burley with a nutty/buttery finish. For xtra stout I'd look for something with a little Latakia and Perique to help cut through the thick roasty nature of the beer. The burnt malt flavors of Irish stouts tend to be bolstered by a touch of smoky lat.

Re: Pipe and beer
I am not at all fond of mixing most aromatics with beer, W.O. Larson 1868 being the single exception. I find a good English blend with a bit of Latakia is a great compliment to a beer. But then, everyone has their own tastes in such matters.
