I favor C&D flakes. They are not the prettiest by any means, but they burn great. If you want, you can rub them out in a flash, or just fold and stuff.

Re: Flake Recommendations

I like several C&D flakes as well, but after seeing FVF or Stonehaven, it's hard to really think of them as flakes.

Re: Flake Recommendations

So many good flakes indeed, almost all of my favorites have been already mentioned. FVF is my favorite straight virginia amazing stuff, strong but gentle.

Long golden flake is also for my liking but i find it a bit overpriced and hard to find (at least for me) I think Solani #633 -virginia with perique is quite similar to LGF and a bit cheaper. To me there is merely no difference between these two, 633 being prehaps a bit stronger and straight forward when LGF is more subtle, dunno.

Re: Flake Recommendations

I thought I may as well post this in here save me creating another thread about it.

Anyway, I went to get some lighter fluid for my Zippo pipe lighter and while I was at my local newsagent something caught my attention. In the left corner of my eye I spotted what looked like a pipe. I thought no it can't be, not in this pokey little place. But there it was a cheap pipe, then above it pipe reamers. I thought my lucks turning and thought I may as well ask if they had anything else. I couldn't believe it. They have pipe tobacco.

I have been going there for years and I had never noticed it before. So tonight or tomorrow I will browse their limited selection of pipe tobaccos.

I think he mentioned St Bruno Flake when I quizzed him (any good? TR seems to suggest it).

Just thought I would share this bit off good news with you all.
